Took a trip to the local dealer today...this is what they said

During my lunch break i stopped by the local dealership to ask around and see if they knew anything i havent heard on here. After they ignored me for a bit because of what car i drove in with and becuase i am not over 50 years old i finally got some help. (Apparently the dealership mostly caters to that age bracket. Here in Asheville, NC people are more into Subarus i guess.)

The salesman and i talked for a bit and he said BMW sent him to Miami to see the new 1 but he saw a black 128 and he was really impressed. He was saying that he was going to get a 135 when as soon as they came out. Also, he said that the 135 will be getting around 30 mpg highway and 35-36 for the 128. Finally he said that he was expecting the 135 base to list for 32,000. Also, he said that they were taking dumby depoists but no one had put their name in yet and i would be the first. He said i needed to put around 2k down and then update the order when pricing came out. He was saying that he expected they would get their first cars around the end of the year.

All that said, this guy was pretty uninformed right? He seemed to know what he was talking about sometimes and then at others he seemed a little off. What do you guys think about what he said? Also, is it usual for them to require 2k for a deposit? He said they already had 7 M3 preorders.

Anyways, i just wanted to see what you guys think about it all. Hope to hear from you soon!

$2k is ridiculous and completely out of line. I'd let them stick to selling to the geezers & find another dealer.

This is really good news...that other thread that said that it would be 3K under 335i price was:bs:. So if the 135i was 32K, the 128i would be like $25-26k?

now with this guy not knowing much I really feel like the $3k below the 335i is not true. I doubt BMW would release pricing information to one dealer and not another. I do think $32000 is a little low for a 135i though.

I dont know if that salesman knew what he was talking about but i hope so. I may need to stay with that dealer becuase my other option is the Greenville dealership (where i actually live, i work in Asheville) and with the plant and performance center has turned into bmw city.

Also, why would BMW send him to Miami and not the center in Greenville which is only like an hour away? He may have been making it all up but you never know.

What is a normal deposit?

Also, he was saying the 135 is going to as quick as the old M3, is that true?

Most people around here will say $500 however it seems more common to be putting down $1k. I put down $1k.

Yeah from what I understand it should be as quick as the old M3. 0 to 60 in 5.1 sec. officially ...

I want to believe your dealer more than djminkin's, but I can't. I don't believe either of them really knows.

THe guy that told me my info didnt take a dime from me, to put me on the list. 32K base, is dreaming. Again, how can BMW justify making the car that cheap, when it only lacks a few pounds and a little leg room over the 335?

Let's not get this thread locked as well. I'm not saying he has any reason to lie to you, but a lot of people hear speculation and report it back to people as absolute truth.

I am not yet ready to believe that the price of the car is currently set in stone and that sales people across the country are learning of it. We have had a lot of people who have talked to dealers who "know" this and "know" that only to have it be "known" differently by a different dealer. I'm not claiming to know, or denying that anyone else knows.

I appreciate your reporting what you have heard, but there is no need to get defensive about it when people show skepticism.

Im not being defensive, in fact, I would be extremely happy if he is incorrect, but I dont understand why they would lock the other thread? Maybe they think it will be the demise of this site, if it is in fact true.

yeah i would be smiling for a while if the 135 comes in around 32 and the 128 gets 35-36 a gallon. I just dont think this will be the case, but i can keep dreaming cant i?
