NPV also mention the sale of our 1M above, it sold for $92k, nearly the same money as a M135, I know what I would have bought if I was shopping that money.
Whilst the looks aren't great, it's very subjective.

I actually feel that the 1m is a little over cooked / boy racer for me.

But that's my age showing thru I guess. When I was a 30 something, I wanted every one to know I drive a fast car. Now as a 40 something, stealth is the order of the day. Especially when I only have one car. Pulling up at clients in a 1m, or M3 not always the best signalling.

One of the joys for me with the e46 m3 was that to the untrained eye, it looked just like a 330. Then again, I suppose there are a few that would say the same about the 1m, 135

Btw, I don't think anyone is disputing the fact that the 1m is the better car.

But bang for buck, the m135 is right up there ( looks aside of course )

P.S. I am not convinced the 1m will be the "collectors" car some seem to think it is going to be. And based on Alpines sale price, I think that opinion is justified

This started out a good thread but has gone silly. 3 different cars at different stages of evolution -

135i - the original. Great engine but somewhat flawed handling. Now at the end of its life.

1M - a going away present for the E82 platform.

M135i - the next generation and a sign of things to come.

Ian pavo's 335i is no joke. It would run rings around most 1M's on here around a track IMO.

I had a nice drive of it last week and it's very quick especially around corners.

Who said an open diff is no fun.

BTW when are the 3 of us going for a coffee.

Well pav is semi retired (as you already new by his car choice 335i) so he's available most of the time and I prefer not to work most of the time myself.
We'll come to Mosman one weekend for a quick coffee and yarn.

Sorry a little OT here.

I was surprised to see 13 1M's on carsales, I missed the 1M boat at the time, a blessing as I really need a daily. Not liking the 235i front end, similar to M135i IMO.
Played it safe, learnt the hard way regarding daily vs track cars in the past.

Yeah the 2 series front end is a major worry.

Hey I see on carsales there's some M135i's with a drive away price of around $80k but then there's also a bunch of E82 135i's with drive away prices in the high $90k's. Suppose it comes down to options, but this seems silly.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what some fellow forum members do with the M135.

Seems the new chassis is a big improvement from all accounts

The appearance looks a little better with every review I read. Kind of like beer goggles

What don't we get ? Don't think anyone stating it is an M

The whole point to the posts is bang for buck performance with the 1m setting the bench mark.

Besides, very few people track their cars relatively speaking

It will be an epic car over time
Interesting - both of us 135i and 1M owners and actually I don't agree at all. It is very tight and responsive that to me makes it a better DD. Without the run flats the 1M rides better, with better body control that encourage better driving. Sure you are not comparing the 135i with your lowered 1m? . The only thing 1M was not as good is the noise - more road noise and the dreaded drone at 110km in 6th.

Many love taking the 1M to the backroads too where it shines. You don't need a track at all.

Don't think there is much debate that the M135i is a really, really good car. Just watch the Chris Harris video where it sh*ts all over an Audi RS3 that costs 10,000 quid more.

When it comes to what makes a car collectible though, what gives it that special "soul", performance comes second to looks. Ideally you combine looks and performance, but looks matter most.

It is no coincidence that the most collectible cars in the world (think Ferrari 250 GTO, Aston Martin DB4 Zagato, etc) are also absolutely stunning. Or that Sepia brown Porsche 911s are very hard to sell.

The M135i will come and go and quickly be forgotten. Looks matter. People want to collect a Sharapova not a Mauresmo.

^ not for a second suggesting the M135 would be collectible, but to your point about all collectibles being attractive, not so sure about that.

I for one don't see any beauty in a HK Monaro, but one is being auctioned at Shannon's next week with price expectations of $90k +

Even the fugly Leyland P76 fetches decent prices, and what about some of the classic cars such as the 3 wheel BMWs ? Nuttin pretty there
