The M135 for me is like that ugly fat chick who's suppose to be a great root in bed, if you close your eyes and can forgive the horrid styling one might enjoy the ride. (I could never possibly own one myself)

The 1M imo could potentially be a collectors car, but then again my mate purchased a 99 sti for $19k a while ago and they were suppose to be a collectors item and back in the day some nutters were paying $100k plus to get one. Only time will tell I guess though! I'm no expert but if I had $90K I would buy an M3 over a 1M...

Pav loves stirring shit, but I still find him amusing personally

Love my 1M but all the "collectible stuff" is just a nice day dream. After all, a good condition E28 M5, which has got to be much more collectible than the 1M will ever be, sells for only ~$20k-$30k.

Is the 1M anything SPECIAL?

In this context I see the 1M not as a collectable, in the way an M3 CSL is. (but in saying that, the $220k new CSL can now be had for $90k's, still a 40% retained value from new which is not bad for a 10yo car).

What I see in the 1M is a car that has a slower depreciating effect on it's market value, nothing more. There are 300+ on our little island, they are not that special!! (if they stuck with the original plan of 100 then maybe they would have been more special)

Our car sold (as I have said a few times now) for $92k versus a buy @ $110k, 83% retained value over 18 months AND she had 24,000 k's on her, not bad IMO!!!

footnote:
my cayman R had a 86% retained value, surprisingly better than the 1M, go figure.

I just had a look on car sales and the M135i does seem over priced for a hatch in my opinion but dammmm...after watching that video...RESPECT!

The 1M will definately be desirable in 5-10-15-30 years time no doubt, but in comparison to say the 335i it will definately retain its value better.

300 cars new is a high number but in 10 years time it will be 250, then in 15 years it will be 200....

Just out of curiosity why do you think the 1M isn't as collectable as the csl? Due to a lower number available?

Be good to see one on a dyno as I suspect the output is way under spec'd ... It will put down some good numbers

When it comes to what makes a car collectible though, what gives it that special "soul", performance comes second to looks. Ideally you combine looks and performance, but looks matter most.

It is no coincidence that the most collectible cars in the world (think Ferrari 250 GTO, Aston Martin DB4 Zagato, etc) are also absolutely stunning. Or that Sepia brown Porsche 911s are very hard to sell.

The M135i will come and go and quickly be forgotten. Looks matter. People want to collect a Sharapova not a Mauresmo.

Simple mate. There are probably 30 Cayman R's in this country.

This thread has gone way off topic, but that's ok.

My OP was about 13 cars being available. Hilarious for those of us who were on the forum 2-3 years ago and went through the journey of trying to get a 1M . . . now there are 13 just sitting on Carsales and not moving!

BMW really made us sweat when there were only going to be 100 available and the dealers were just telling people to f-off.

Haha, it was planned that way by design. There will always be a "special" car around the corner.
Those who bought an Audi RS3 or Cayman R bought a "special" car.

It says at the end that they will reveal the mystery of why the 1M lost... and the answer is ......

driver failure

Most likely I would think it's based on the same feedback from the wheels and therefore it would be as inaccurate as our speedo's are. I think the last time I compared my GPS speed to my speedo, the cruise control was set at 100kph but the GPS read about 92-93kph.
