Slightly OT but why would one require a finned diff cover for better cooling and what advantages are there to be had?

I believe one of the major contributors to diff failure is overheating and since the M3 is designed to withstand track conditions and thus higher then normal fluid temps they have added a finned cover for cooling and to promote the life duration of the diff.

Hey Stuart why do you need to know as you don't even drive your car it spends more time in my shop than your garage.
But you know with the new 1M exhaust system i guess you will need to do the diff as well, all that extra power

Yes, the guy I bought this off has a M3 diff by itself for sale for approx. 1000 euros. BUT, you cant just replace the 135i diff with the M diff as it requires the M half shafts and M drive shaft. M half shafts are thicker and stronger so if you can source them in addition to the M diff you wouldnt need the rest of the subframe.
Hi! Im about to bye an m3 diff without the complete subframe. I will upgrade my 135i with m3 diff and subframe bushings and sway bar. im looking for some info from guys who already have made this kind of mods and is very thankful for help to pull this through. Sitting now and reading forums and gathering info for my car mechanic. know that we vill need the half drivechaft and shorted it a little bit. But is very thankful fore some advice.

i'm hoping it's not the one i'm trying to buy *shakes fist*

I don't believe the M3 diff will actually bolt up without the M3 subframe? someone who's had hands on experience with it would know better though

how come the lockdown kit is so different for the M3 vs non-M? simply differences in the points on the subframe?

awesome, notbad then for those that get it cheaply + just want a good LSD!

still, not convincing me not to just get the whole subframe/rear axle setup for barely any extra cost! haha.. PITA to find a 3.15 though, there's a ton with 3.85. i'm not rich enough to afford a new set of tires a week though haha

also just a hassle having to get the driveshaft all sorted for me >_<

having a look at the pics on the previous page, it looks AWESOME.

fixing points on subframe are the same maybe the kits is different because of stiffness or different shape of the diff.

Of the diff lockdown kit (brace for the diff/subframe to help with wheel-hop), a different part for m/non-m)

Is still happening, will start updating again soon, will have a lot of stuff to post.

Subframe+lsd seems like a sensible path for supporting mods to me haha

so because the seller i was trying to get the subframe off didn't help organize freight at all... well it took more than 14 days to get a single company to give me a quote finally (coming today) but the seller cancelled the item on me in the meantime...

i would absolutely LOVE to grab

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=380672509780

but have zero idea whatsoever on how to get it back here efficiently (ie organize freight in <1week...) (and i'm fully aware there's a solid chance someone here will snap it up first )

any suggestions? companies? etc.?

It's such a nightmare getting the bigger stuff shipped - It took me 2 weeks to sort out getting a rear subframe to me in Northern Ireland from mainland UK. The guys who are selling that subframe combo on eBay look to be proper company rather than a private individual and so might entertain shipping it to you. If I'd been closer I'd have been happy to throw it into my garage until you got organised, but they might not even want to ship that far.

In the end I got mine over by asking for quotes on shiply.com

nah they won't, i asked.. 'you organize shipping', was the response.

but yeah, looks like they only want to ship mainland, or air freight -_-

shiply? i'll try them too. gah. thanks

my final resort would be getting it to my sister in wales, and having her help out.

would someone be able to explain this shipping quote?

all the random percentages... that UK NES 17.5%... is that a 17.5% tax on teh actual value of the item itself? (roughly $1000 AUD)

wtf is a fuel surcharge? it's 15% of WHAT?

i was quoted $1100ish for air freight

and it's looking like that much OR MORE... for sea freight?!

ED: 17.5% appears to be the OLD VAT rate (now 20%) but doesn't apply to exports :/

so if i'm reading it right.. $106+x (15% of?) to get it on the boat... $120 in actual shipping costs... $588 in local costs (+fuel?? 12.5% something)...

$814, yeesh!.. though adding another pallet, keeping it under 1 cube.. would at zero extra cost :/
