I've read and heard from various dealers and friends locally that BMWs are best to be driven daily, otherwise it will cause problems especially electronics.
For this matter, it took me years before i decide to get the 135i. I plan to use this car on the weekend only but because of the daily drive issue i plan to drive the 135i in our subdivision 3x a week and long drives on the weekend.

How many of us here, use the BMW as a weekend car and did it pose any problems or reliability issues when used as such ?

A friend recently bought a Porsche 991 and in the manual , it even states that the car has to be driven @ least 20 kilometers a day every day so it will not present problems.... Wow, that is quite an unkeep when we dont even drive that much daily here.

Thanks for the inputs.

The dealer I spoke with only advised that if the vehicle was going to be parked for some extended time (ie: winter) then put it on a battery charger.

As for me, I think you'll have no issues using it as a weekend driver.

Nah. I mostly ride my motorcycle, so my cars usually only see action once every couple of weeks. I've never had a problem. If you are going to park it for a long time, put a trickle charger on the battery.

Trickle charger is all i can think of, driving it a few times a week should not be an issue.

Depending on your driving habits and weather conditions it will be fine in most circumstances. If you simply put too few miles on it or the car is not fully warmed up and functioning on those short trips a battery tender will do the trick. I had a 6 year old BMW 6 Series that was driven maybe once or twice a month - it was on a battery tender for the last 2+ years without an issue.

Sunday - Friday my car sits in the garage. On Saturday it gets cleaned and then we go out for a good blast, maybe 60miles maximum I guess. Then back to bed for her for another week where she sits happy. It's a great weekend car if you ask me, fun & sporty and driving it once a week has become a treat. Always fires on the button

Thanks for the replies guys. I don't know whether humidity will have an effect as its quite humid here in the Philippines. maybe for that matter, its best to run the BMW a few times during the week to get the moisture out of the electronics ???
Nonetheless, i'll try to run it as much as I can during the week. On the weekends however, at least i can run it 100 kilometers and at times 200 kilometers @ various speeds.
Looking forward to my unit next month.

Mine has sat in the garage for a month or more before. Lately its been idle as well with fuel costs being over $4/gal. Driving my Suzuki SX4 to work mostly due to the utility. I will probably get the 135i out tomorrow for a 60 mile drive down the PA Turnpike.

2009 135i - 23k miles.

My 2010 135i is my only car. My other ride is a 2004 BMW K1200RS motorcycle. The car has almost 50,000 miles on it and runs beautifully. The bike, almost 46,000 miles and awesome ride. BMWs are made to last a long time if you just do preventative car, e.g. Oil changes, inspection, battery-tender when not using them but occasionally. Freude am Fahren!

Our 09 135 Vert is pretty much a warm weather car and sits with a Battery Tender and Sta-bil from Dec-March. Also keep the Tender on if it will not be driven for a week or two. Never a problem.

Ayus lang yan pare. Bring it to BRC once in a while to stretch some muscles. Do they still have a track in Subic? I use to go there with my good old reliable Lancer Boxtype.

If you only drive it occasionally, be sure to warm it up slowly then put it thru its paces to blow out and burn off any deposits.

Thanks guys! there's quite a mention of battery tenders usage on BMWs. Which brand of battery tenders are you guys using for your BMWs ?
As much as possible i will try the drive the car whenever opportunity exists. Unfortunately i hate driving these cars under traffic condition. Its a pity.

I use a CTEK Multi US 3300. This is very popular, and I highly recommend it over the ones found in Walmart, Autozone, or O'Reilly.

22,900 on my '09. I like keeping the mileage low and it's sits for weeks at a time. Especially in the winter. Even without a tender it starts right up, no issues. My pop's SL55 sits for months at a time, but with a tender on it. That thing goes to sleep and needs to be driven quite a few miles before electronics come back online. It is sweet though when the suspension compresses and it sits in the garage slammed tucking the tires.
