Catback advice

Hi,

Been looking at a AA catback system for my 135i. My question is after the install do I need to get it tuned, or will I get the benefits as soon as I bolt it on. The site says I'll gain 11.5 hp and 11.5 in torque. But they don't mention tuning. My son just did a catback on his Evo X, his car he has to tune because his catback opens up to 3" at the catback.

Thanks

No you don't need a tune. I highly doubt you will gain 11hp from a catback though. You already have free flowing mids since n55 so you basically are just changing the axel back. More just for sound than power. Changing the downpipe is where the power lies. Ask your son if he changed the downpipe as well since a tune is not needed for just a catback on any car.

So if that's the case in just getting better sound, I'd might as well just to the Golf tee mod ? To open that flapper valve back in the muffler?

The golf tee mod will give you a little more volume and a deeper tone below 3000 rpm where it would open anyway. If you want your exhaust to be even louder, or want a different tone then aftermarket or BMW PE is the way to go

I first did golf tee mod on my 128i and it makes a slight but noticeable difference in low RPM. PE makes a very big difference across the board and sounds incredible. Can't say I noticed any real difference in power though, but the sound alone kind of makes it feel like you have more power.

With just a catback upgrade, I don't think you will get tremendous hp gain.

The only exhaust mods that should give you real gainz are downpipes and headers for turbo and NA respectively
