I don't know - I sort of think a jack stand is a jack stand is a jack stand, but maybe someone will chime in with knowledge of some sort of high-speed, uber-cool "race" jack stand.
I have a pair of Craftsman 3-ton jack stands that have served me well. Wouldn't want to carry them around in my trunk, though. Are you carrying a jack with you as well, then? Just like a scissor-type jack, I assume? That alone should be sufficient to change wheels in an emergency situation (or, I presume in your case, at a car show, photo shoot, etc.). If you're just using a scissor-type jack, I would think it would be hard to get your car on stands anyway. I always have to use my floor jack to get under my rear diff to raise the back end up. If I want to raise the front up, I end up having to use two jacks because I don't have a low-profile floor jack, my car is lowered, and I can't access the front jacking point without raising the car a little first. Probably a race jack would be fine, but that would be a pain to carry around all the time. Last edited by Bimmer-Bob; 03-31-2011 at 02:15 AM.. |

for just changing out a wheel, i dont use a jack stand. I just use my low profile floor jack
in order to get my car onto jack stands, I would need ramps since I am lowered, which I would not wanna carry around |

your car looks pretty low, I doubt you will find a scissor jack that will fit, I can barely get mine low profile floor jack to fit, unless you plan on carrying ramps

Me...I pack a midget bodybuilder who's all "jacked" haha on roids in my trunk. His name is bo-bo....bo-bo out of trunk...lift car....
I actually found my wifes mini jacks fits well...my cars not lowered but it, her car, is lower than my 1er. Same jack points/rectanglular lift pts. Might be of help. |

I googled "scissor jack" and got a bunch of them. Prices start at $25.51 delivered. I think they would work but they will not have anything on top to interface with our lifting pockets. You could cut a piece of rectangular steel tubing to fit the pocket and weld it to the top. A piece of a hockey puc bolted to the top should work too.

I bought a 1 1/2 ton sissor jack at Meijers (in the mid-west) for $21. I also carry 3 pieces of 1x4 pine wood 6" long. If the tire is flat, i might have to roll onto the wood planks to get the jack under there with the jack stand adapter. at that length they tuck nicely by the battery and add less than a 2lbs.

This one fits directly into the square pegs under the sideskirt next to each wheel perfectly, but for a price
