E82 Front Bumper replacement question (insurance claim)

ISO Opinions...

If you got into an accident and had to replace your front bumper on a 2012 135i Msport (with an insurance claim)....would you go for a replica 1M or replace with factory Msport bumper?

Stock if you're concerned with resale, modded if you think you don't care about the possible complication down the road.

You could most likely pick one up and get it painted and installed without filing a claim for 1000. I claimed my front bumper and intercooler and managed to get the 7'' VRSF intercooler and the Kerscher 1M replica for a 500 deductible.

What complication? Only if you trade in...I would think a 1M bumper would be more appealing to private party re-sell.

What if we threw a broken headlight problem into the equation? Sounds like you made out well in your case..

Then you're looking at $700 for the headlight, with $300 towards a new bumper. Dealer prices will take you well north of $2k for a new bumper and headlight, at least at my stealership.

3rd option, Performance bumper?

My Local BMW Stealership quoted me $1814.97 - For a replacement headlight housing, xenon bulb, ballast, and Adaptive headlight module. That does not include labor....so that's over $2k just to replace JUST a headlight...

+1 on this 3rd option. I think these things have an actual brake ducts. I believe the regular MSport doesn't but I could be wrong; I haven't looked through my bumper's "ducts".

Never thought of the performance bumper. Tried doing a search and I can't find any? Guess this is a dealer part only? Anyone know the retail $ ?

Tischer/GetBMWParts is a great site for OEM parts at good prices.

Performance bumper starts at 599.

M Sport bumper starts at 955.

Hope the links work, it's a terrible site to browse. You'll get everything with these kits- ducting, new bolts etc. It might be cheaper to browse ebay for a slightly damaged front bumper. And if you have the patience, they pop up on this site every once in a while. You could potentially get one fixed and painted at a fraction of these online prices, but it will eat time.

Or you could use my stock 128i bumper and troll people.

Ah thanks for the links! It says that if it's for a 135i you have to order the cold air package with that bumper?

Nevermind, apparently I would have to order the "install kit" for 135i, but after looking at how it looks in SGM (same color as my car) I'm pretty much sold on this bumper. $1216.90 shipped from tuner motorsports

Big fan of the Performance bumper, mostly because it's simply something different in a sea of conformity. Which I'll admit I'm guilty of.

Whoops, did not realize the 135i required an install kit. In my defense, the 128i does not. ESCTuning has a cheaper price at $1125.75
If you google the part numbers you'll find more options, air duct: 51740442875, bumper: 51110442870.

For the record, GetBMWParts is still cheaper. You'll just need to contact them for shipping. Should be comparable to others but I think you could choose your own. I used Pilot Freight for around $125 when I bought a rear bumper from elsewhere.

Why is the M-Sport bumper so expensive. At some point down the line I'll be looking to replace my stock 128 bumper but with the price of the M-Sport I might end up with a 1M Replica, despite the gaudiness of them.

At the end of the day, I would rather go with a genuine BMW part. Especially if the insurance is paying for it. Performance bumper it is.

Genuine parts would be my preference too. I need to get someone to gently back into me so I can get the M Sport bumper.

You would be wrong, MSport bumper has brake ducting:
