F*** Brake Dust

Caked on brake dust or tar. You can remove these the hard way by claying your wheels (possibly using aggressive clay and risking marring the finish, so it would require a polish session as well to polish that out).

You could also use AutoSmart Tardis which actually dissolves tar spots. I use it on the body as well (lower panels). Spray, let it soak for a minute or two and then wipe off with a microfibre towel.

I had similar marks and a clay bar took them right off. If it doesn't work, try some Tarminator.

Actually, it's working pretty darn well for me. We had a downpour the other day while I was driving; by the time I parked at home it had stopped. After getting out of the 1-er I happened to notice the wheels on the driver's side, then I checked the other side -- there's wasn't a bit of brake dust on any of them.

The AA Wheel Protectant has been on the wheels about 15 days now. Unless there are some adverse effects I haven't seen yet, I'm very pleased with the AA protectant and would recommend it based upon my personal experience.

Had to get the alloys repaired professionally as a couple were scuffed last weekend. The guy looked at the spotts on the alloys and said they were in fact tiny stone chips and not tar or other contaminates. Said a decent wheel wax will help protect them. I then asked if powder coating can help protect them and he said powder coat surfaces easily chip and expose the underlying alloy colour.

The recommended stuff to go for was Meguiar's Gold Class Liquid Wax.

Anyone else used this ?

I've been using Griot's Heavy Duty wheel cleaner for about 2 months now and I've noticed that the wheels stay very clean after using it even for several weeks. It seems as though it helps repel brake dust and dirt. I highly recommend it.

+100 on the AA wheel protectant. BMW should include a can with every new or CPO car. It makes wheel cleaning seriously easy and it honestly couldn't be any easier to apply, either. I use the product liberally and probably get 2.5 washes out of a can, making the per-wash cost nominal.

I found that armorall wheel protectant left streaks of white/light after i sprayed it on and let it dry...

sounds good will pickup a pair if I still have the car when they run out though I doubt it given I'm only on 15,000km mileage lol

Do the Cool Carbon have similar performance to the 135i Brembo Stock oem brake pads?

Better braking and less fading than stock..i also did steel oil lines and moved to Motul 600 fluid..havent been back to the track yet but the brakes feel great.

Interesting, I have gunmetal and haven't noticed any streaking. Are you using a wheel cleaner and really getting the wheel clean before applying? My wheels have a two stage powder with a clear, so perhaps there's a bit of reaction with your single stage wheels? Are they textured, or smooth?

DriveHard here in the forum switched to cool carbon pads to avoid brake dust and after tracking this weekend he thought performance-wise it was much worse than the stock brakepads...
