Oh Snap!

Seriously,..while they arent my cup O tea,..Some people are forced to park with the masses of "Knuckle draggers". Looks to be a worthwhile option if you dont mind the look. ..plus im sure they can be removed without damaging the finish.
Also,..the only other option to avoid dings is to be the DICK that takes up 2 spaces,..but then you are risking a keying of your car.

+1. If I didn't know that car doesn't come with it standardly, I might not think twice about it. I don't know if I would do that, but it was done with thought, and was well executed.

I guess Rosky will be laughing at all of us in a couple years when were calling dent wizard. :iono:

Yea...you can't have any self esteem problems on this board. If you post a FYI comment or picture you risk a bruised ego.

I like the moldings. Looks pretty good to me.
Having been a victim of a few dings I think I may go for a set.

This board is more civilized than most. We're a good bunch in general. But when it comes to someone's personal ride (esp. a brand new 135i), if you can't say something nice... you know the rest...

Thanks for the support- I posted the pics knowing that some would not like the look- but I searched multiple sites to find a look similar to the old factory moldings on my '86 944- and the company I found delivered exactly what they promised in a well done matching factory color. Basically I did it because I like having them (even though I park very carefully anyway- we all know many others do not). Plus I've enjoyed the forum & figured I could take a few verbal dings (ha!) & still share the info for any 1 addict who might want it. And if my car looks like a Taurus to one guy, I think he could better invest his $$ in new glasses, 'cause it sure doesn't look or drive like any Taurus I ever met.

PS- already had a dealer ask for the info 'cause he's had customers concerned about the "exposed" sides.

You know, I was just thinking, people give a guy a really hard time over a practical mod like the door moldings. But I bet some of the same people would turn around and glue eyelids onto their headlights, slap on 20" wheels, drop the suspension by a 1/2 inch and fill the car with largely cosmetic "performance parts". And somehow that's ok... wacky, just plain wacky...

Well said. I just had a pm from a Canadian who is ordering the moldings- so post was worthwhile if it helped a fellow 1addict. He even wanted measurements so he could have 'em placed the same.

Thanks very much for starting this thread. I found it very helpful. I get that many will not want to change the look on day 1 by adding moulding. However, it is a needed or at least desired option for many of us. I thought your car looked great with the moulding. I think something that extended to both sides of the door would be even more integrated and sleek. And on some colors of car, it would look better than on others.

I do not know how to do real photshop, but I will try to post an image that, while crudely done, gives an idea of what it might look like on SGM.

I would LOVE to see better photoshop done to design moulding for Sedona (or other color) as well as white, silver, grey.

That would be me..
I'm sure that there may be others here who would also be interested in your exact placement measurements, so you may want to post the result on this thread..
The pic below will show folks the measurement points.
1" in from each end of the molding and from the bottom of the molding to the extended door line..
TIA..

I sold my 86 944 this past summer with about 200k miles on it. The painted side mouldings did a fine job of preventing door dings but in tradeoff the mouldings themselves were dinged to pieces and so looked horrible.

Guess my old 944 had a more charmed life- only had the moldings hit a couple of times & easily touched up- but that car only had 57K total miles in seven years so not much exposure. Hope to keep this one the same way. And Carnut, I sent you the measurements just the way my guy did it- but will include more info if you want.

If I'm reading you correctly (and you're not making it easy), you're asking me why I would consider putting the moldings on my 1er as it is your opinion that the moldings ruin the "classy good" looks of the 1er - correct?
1. As a veteran of a few door dings, I think it is an accessory that pays for itself.
2. I don't think they affect the appearance of the 1er negatively - in fact, I kinda like the look.
3. It's my 1er, and as such, I can pretty well do whatever I want with it..
