My BMW 135i: A Cosmetic and Performance Chronicle

Vehicle

“Grimm 1” 2009 BMW 135i Coupe
  • Alpine White Exterior
  • Coral Red Interior
  • M-Sport Package
  • Premium Package
  • Premium Sound Package
  • Rear Distance Control
Mission

To create a sinister and unique BMW 135i capable of intimidating and conquering performance vehicles well above class and price point by combining OEM style cosmetic augmentations and customized accents with best of breed performance modifications.

Cosmetics

When selecting and applying the cosmetic enhancements, I wanted to create a clean matte black on white aesthetic that highlighted the OEM look while establishing a baleful facade. I blended BMW performance accessories with professionally customized blackened and alpine white accents to ensure clean fitment and color harmony. Following is the catalogue of cosmetic modifications that have been applied to the vehicle:
  • BMW Performance Grilles
  • BMW Performance Side Skirts
  • BMW Performance CF Rear Spoiler
  • BMW Performance Aluminum Pedals
  • BMW License Plate Covers
  • BMW 35% Window Tints
  • Custom Matte Black Roof Wrap
  • Custom Matte Black 261M Rims
  • Custom Dark Smoked Tail Lighting
  • Custom Dark Smoked Rear Brake Light
  • Custom Alpine White Brakes

The following images were snapped by fellow 1ADDICT Mohammadz, enjoy:

Performance

When installing performance modifications I elected to go with arguably the most reputable manufacturers of N54 products that have demonstrated significant outcomes substantiated by data and enthusiast community feedback. Each modification was carefully researched and represents what I believe to be best in class in each category and when combined deliver exceptional performance gains. Following is the list of performance modifications that have been applied to the vehicle:
  • Burger Motorsports Juice Box Stage 3 Version 2.0
  • Burger Motorsports Data Cable
  • Burger Motorsports Dual Cone Intake
  • AMS Front Mount Intercooler
  • AR Designs 3” Catless Downpipes
  • BMW Performance Exhaust
  • Hankook Ventus V12 Tires
  • H&R Sport Springs
  • P3C Integrated Vent Gauge

The following table illustrates the performance figures of “Grimm 1” fully modified:

Below are the ¼ mile time slips and dyno charts that substantiate the data presented in the table above.

Credits

I would like to thank the following vendors and garages for enabling my vision to become a reality:
  • Bimmerpost.com for leading me to the 135i and its incredible user community
  • Burger Motorsports for designing incredible products and delivering extraordinary customer service
  • Mike at N54Tuning.com for delivering my performance modifications and helping with many installs
  • Charlie at Bimmersport Automotive for his incredible installations and support
  • Keiron at Kjohn Car Innovations for his extraordinary powder coating & painting craftsmanship

I think you have convinced me to get my wheels powdercoated. Now, to decide on matte black or grey.

Car looks great dude!

Great job on the project and vision you've set for yourself. Do like the results you've accomplished......

The only suggestion if any and if it's possible... maybe spacers to get a bit more tire flushed with fender

Definitely one of the most well rounded 135i's in town with the performance/cosmetic work you've done. Great work and i must say Mo took some amazing shots!

The local 1ers should do a meet soon now that the weather is great!

Thanks for the feedback, I will really consider this idea, I like it a lot but I am also trying to make this an 11 second car so I change out to drag radials a lot.

Thanks bro, coming from you this means a lot considering how gorgeous and tasteful your 1er is. I agree, a local meet is well overdue.

Ya thanks a lot, I am very happy with the results as I was a little nervous about this mod. Kjohn did an amazing job.

Wow, very, very nice! I missed the brakes until they were mentioned.

Not that you need any more mods, but I see meth or a matte black performance/iCarbon style diffuser next.

Thanks for the comments and you are bang on. Meth will be next (after my next scheduled service in 8000km) and depending on how well year end bonus is I may go for the BMW Performance diffuser. I am likely done modding until December tho.
