Down pipes, resonated mid pipe, stock muffler

I really want to remove the cats and add some decent downpipes, but im not to interested in having a super loud car. So thinking about keeping the stock muffler.

Is anyone running this setup? Hows the sound? Is CPE the only one making resonated mid pipes?

Thanks
Steven

not to mention the stock muffler is actually a restriction power wise... I bet you could get an exhaust thats quiet and flows well.

I had catless DP's and the factory exhaust. It was not loud at all. I was expecting it to be much louder with the downpipes, but it was not. My next "1" will have the catless downpipes and the BMW performance exhaust, I think this will be a perfect set up and a better compromise between loudness and flow. Other systems out on the market will flow better, but I personally just don't want the car that loud.

Catless downpipes are way more of a pain in the ass then they are worth. I've specifically had dealers say they don't mind aftermarket DP's as long as the cats have not been tampered with. My 2 cents, get catted dp's and work your way back from there.

I think this would be a great sounding setup. Most of the sound and flow will come from those DPs and the mid-pipes; however, it won't be LOUD by getting resonated pipes and sticking with the stock axle-back. If you were going for BIG power, eventually the stock rear-section would hurt you a bit, but you'll be fine for now.

I have a catless, non-resonated cp-e turboback on my car (Steptronic, mind you) and it sounds INCREDIBLE. It's loud and it drones (nothing resonators won't fix), but absolutely incredible, nonetheless.

I say, "Go for it!"

Catless DP's with stock muffler will NOT be loud. Louder than stock, but not LOUD.
