17" versus 18" wheels, WTB set of 207Ms?
Hi Guys. Long time reader and minor contributor - great forum!
I was wondering if anyone has direct experience on the ride and steering effort difference between the 17" and 18" wheels? I know RFT make the ride worse, but I will be using non-RFT. With respect to steering effort, the offset of the 17s is 47, which is a little further out than the 18s at 49. (My current aftermarket 18x8s with 225 width tyres are at 45 offset, and the low-speed steering is very heavy. It is almost impossible to 'palm' it when stationary.) My assumption is the 17s will ride better, steering effort will be reduced, tyres are cheaper, wheels are lighter, and less tram-tracking. I was proposing to keep the aftermarkets (all 18x8 and are lighter than stock 18s) for my track days, and buy some 207s for the commute. I guess the advantages of the 18s is that they look better and give you slightly better feel for the road? I read someone saying on a previous thread that they prefered the look of the 207s on a sparkling graphite hatch anyway! If my reasoning seems correct, does anyone have a set of 207s to sell in Melbourne? Perhaps I'm just soft... |
