Ah hah. That brings back memories. What an animal that car was I'm hoping the new ride is just as much of a beast. All the reviews I've read make it sound that way. Honestly that's why I'm getting it.
Oh and I'm pretty sure based on that pic El Toro was coming up to pass you just after that shot was taken We can agree on one thing, diamondshwartz is the best! Last edited by robertm; 08-27-2011 at 03:47 PM.. |

Drove the car to work today and it felt even more sluggish. Temp was 80 degrees.
I checked charge pipe/diverter valve and everything is intact. At cold startup, i can hear some noise coming from the engine bay, was in the motion of the engine idle (dunno if its the air pumps - but didnt sound like a pump) Another thing i noticed, windows down, when i accelerate in 1st, shift into second, i can hear what sounds like a quieter BOV (everything is stock except for a drop in filter). Any of yall hear this quiet woooosh sound when shifting from 1st to 2nd? I'm taking the car in for service next week. thanks franklin |

is it a cotton or a foam and oil replacement filter mate?
I have had a number of FI cars and some take to replacement performance foam filters etc and others just don't like it letting you know and work best off the oem paper filters replace every 5k |

Both my cars (and myself) get sluggish when it is really hot. In DC, with temps near 100, we get jungle rain forest humidity as well. Hot, wet, air does not compress well (water is an incompressible substance). And therefore doesn't mix as well with the fuel. Plus, water vapor doesn't burn, just gets blown out the exhaust. While my cars are turbo'd, my MINI was, and it definitely did not like hot, wet, days. With fall rolling in quickly, there should be plenty of nice days for driving, and I am sure any turbo car will run alot better then.

The diverter valve noise is normal. It way more apparent if you ever use something like a dual cone intake on the car, and if you leave the windshield cowling off. I find it highly enjoyable after full boost between shifts.

Franklin,
FWIW, I haven't really noticed any significant drop in street performance on my 1M in the recent hot weather in Houston. Hope you figure out what's up with yours soon. If you don't already know, Advantage Downtown service is open Monday (Labor Day) and they didn't have that many appointments when I made mine to get diff oil changed. Bill |

i know its hot outside, but its been hot all summer long, so not sure why the sudden performance drop. Thanks Bill. I'm looking at Wednesday, didnt want to drive into town on Monday. I work in Downtown so its easy to drop the car off. |

Rule out the filters first by giving both a back to back tonight mate and see how you get on, to be honest performance wise there is no real gain between the oem filter and replacement panel filters on FI cars other than an increase in induction roar and re-usable I have ever found, just some engines don't get on well with some after market filters (same make of cars from engine to engine).
Let us know your findings....... |

A/C off. Air filter ruled out, just got back from a drive with the stock filter, and no difference. Also looks like the scoops collected some bugs...found a few dead ones bottom of the filter housing.
will see if the dealer can find anything wrong with the car next week. |

I must say, keep an eye on the clutch. I filled up petrol, drove the car out and turned to my wife. "Something doesn't feel right," I said. ~200km later and the clutch gives out (I think)... I'm convinced the two are connected...
