All cars in France had to have yellow lights until about 10 years ago, when EU legislation allowed everyone - finally - to have white. Most manufacturers just used yellow bulbs, but for some reason BMW actually had different lanses. In any event, the yellow light they threw out lacked contrast & was very tyring to drive with at night. I drove illegally with white lights for a number of years before the law changed without any problem.

BTW, that "59" plate is my local département, le Nord

I didn't know that, but I find it strange that BMW offered it as an option in some countries where it wasn't required.

Don't get me started! I've lived here for 20 years, but if I leave one day, I could write a book on their "idiosycrasies"

That yellow lens thing is still in use in Le Mans Racing events during night time.

During the Le Mans racing event usually sponsored by Rolex, the cars at night illuminate yellow for the slower GT cars (Porsche GT3, BMW M3 GTR) and white for the faster LMP cars (e.g. Audi R8, Mercedes Benz CLK-GTR).

Yellow lights on French cars were a throwback to WWII when the occupying German forces wanted an easy way of identifying French vehicles at night. You would have thought that would be a good enough reason for the French to want to revert to white as soon as the war was over, but for some reason they waited until the mid 1990s.

A french professor was once asked: "What's your favorite occupation?"
He replied:"The german occupation."

I still believe that the E30 is one of the best 3-Series ever produced. It is a blast to drive. The power/weight ratio is really good.

I love my E30. I still have mine in the garage being restored. It is the longest production model in BMW history, I think

I totally agree, and It looked great the first time you saw it and at any angle without interpretation or getting used to it(E46 M3 beauty). That's the car that made me realize how boring M-B's were.

Me is also driving an e30 I really love it.
Just passed the 200000km, and that in 18 years.

I hope i can drive it a few years more.
Then i must choose between an e90 or an old e39(facelift).

Here is my precious.....
