N54 is more tuning friendly ... That being said N55 has a lot of potential as well

I would just get the cleaner car with the best price I can find... Plenty of power with either engine option

New to the BMW world and looking to buy my first 135i, so been trying to soak up as much info as possible. Some great info in this thread. I'm leaning towards an 08-10 in manual. Definitely want Alpine white with red interior and cant wait to finally own my first turbo RWD car, that doesn't attract every high school kid that pulls up beside me at a light LoL. Sorry still own a heavily modified DC5 aka RSX-S but man can't wait to get me a BMW

FUTURE RIDE: Alpine White w/ red interior BMW 135i N54/N55? still researching

Find an early 2012 with DCT and low miles. I have a 2008 335 with N54 and a 2012 135 with N55. Love em both. The N55 refines a lot of things on the N54. Don't let the talk above fool you, they both pull strong. On average, N55 should be more reliable. As always, YMMV.
