DCT - what mode do you drive in mostly?
I tend to drive mostly in plain auto (drive) but with the Sport button pressed for greater throttle response.
Without the sport button the car seems a little laggy on takeoff and downshifts, and if i push the gear stick to the left it holds onto the gears way too long for normal driving. If i want to impress my friends i'll use the paddles with gear stick to the left and sport button pressed. hehe To anyone with a DCT - how do you most often drive?

I don't have DCT, but have Step. 90% of the time I'm in DS and use the paddles.

During DD I always have it in auto and to the left (sport)
Lately, I have also started pressing the sport button as well. On weekends - always manual / paddles And when on the old Pacific hwy ( also weekends ) - manual sport with sport button pressed ; ) |

Tell that to F1 drivers!
Just to continue opening the can of worms... Don't get me wrong, I love to drive manual too, but in this day and age, the autos(DCT's etc) are becoming so good there's becoming little point to the manual. |

At the risk of ruining the intent of this thread - I mostly use my step' in full auto. If I'm having a go on country roads I'll switch to DS and use the paddles. If I have pole position at a stop light I will set to intermediate traction control and use DS. Around town I often bump across to DS for an upcoming corner to force a downshift but don't use the paddles. Do the same in my wife's X3. Having said all of this though, I have a 1M on order and it will probably be my last manual. Manual does give you full control. Plus you always know what gear you are in without taking your eyes of the road. This is my biggest gripe with Auto and DCT trans'; you don't know which gear you are in without having a look at a readout. However, if I were to compete in something like say the Targa Tasmania I would unhesitatingly opt for a DCT type transmission. Or even better a sequential trans'. DCT works. Had one in my Golf GTI and it was excellent. That car pretty well pioneered this type of gearbox in a mass produced car. The best manual car I ever had was an MX5. Had a short throw, as standard, snicky snick gear lever wjth the precision and feel of a well oiled bolt action rifle. I could rest my arm on the transmission tunnel and change gears with a flick of the wrist. Beautifully intuitive heel and toe set up with the pedals and brake modulation. Sorry. I've gone off again. Never mind me. I'll just go and sit in the corner.

Definitions:
Automatic = 2 pedals Manual = 3 pedals Easy to spot, just look at footwell, drivers side. Now that we have the definitions sorted, the question becomes an easy one to answer: MANUEL (He's from Barcelona) :-) |

Always drive the M3 M-DCT in "manual" mode - almost never in "auto" (refer DCT lag issues). The only variation is M button on or off
The M-DCT gear knob in the M3 is a cracker!

I don't have a sport button or paddles.
Different driving modes are determined by the weight of my right foot and the strength of my left hand.

Well said my friend! Now this is the proper remark of why people should choose to drive a manual. I'm a manual fanboi myself and currently have step but I assure you the pleasure of driving a manual to that of anything automated is truly different. Just knowing that you can rev your motor freely at any given time and not having to worry about holding down the break at a stop light alone just make me miss my manual lol. Though you gotta give it to the autos for their insanely fast shift times.
