Type of Gas and MPG

I know we have a few discussions about MPG, gas types, etc. But this one can be more of an experience with each brand of gas.

I thought it would be a good idea to have everyone post the following:

1. Type (325 or 330)
2. Approx mileage on your E90
3. Brand of gas used
4. MPG you got on that full tank

I'm in the break-in period so the below #'s are ugly.

325i
625 miles
BP (Amoco brand)
Approx 20.5 MPG

(was 19.6 all city, took it on highway for about 40 miles yesterday and it is up to 20.5)

Appears Mobil is doing pretty well for the E90.

I filled again today with BP, will post stats when this tank is up.

I'm curious to see someone filling with Mobil under 1000 miles if it stacks up near the same as you guys who have broken the car in already.

you people are all crazy,

the differences in MPG per tank are much more of a result of different driving conditions than where you got your gas.

do you drive the exact same route, at the exact same speed for the entire tank of gas???? Do you take off from a stop at the same rate every time??
Are your tires at the same pressures???? Do you have the exact same cargo/people load???

I bet you don't.

Arco/Costco 91 octane is like Mobil 87 octane. Try it.....it's all about the acceleration!

No we don't but it's good to see the variations....

For someone like me who is getting 19-20mpg with a non broken in engine it is good to see the future should be better.

The main info I was looking for was to see others getting higher than me since 19-20 is just poor.

it probably won't get better if you keep driving the same way you do now. If you're in the city doing stop and go, accelerating hard you won't see much over 20 MPG, but if you're cruising on the freeway at steady speed you should see close to 30.

doesn't the window sticker claim 20 in town, 30 on the freeway?

other people may get better mileage than you but maybe they're on the freeway more, maybe they don't floor it as much, either way it's not relevant to how YOU drive.

1. 325i automatic
2. 1500 miles
3. Right now Shell. I am following advice found on another thread somewhere (could be at bimmerfest), switching between 3 top-tier gas company every 5000 miles - shell, 76, chevron and then back to shell.. etc Supposedly help cut down deposits in your engine
4. 25 mpg

ward....

I've been VERY easy on the gas considering the break-in period. I drove from VA to NJ (all highway obviously). There were some parts of traffic but most was clear and I was still getting about 20-21MPG, which is very low.

I know a lot of it has to do with the break-in and it will get better so I was trying to see how everyone else was doing and seeing if there was a certain mileage area where it starts to really get better.

19-20 on freeway driving is POOR! During breakin I took ours twice to my father's cabin, mostly freeway driving except for a a coupel of hills. Got 35 one way and 30 the other, both times.
I have noticed after riding with the wife behind teh wheel that there is a BIG difference in teh way we drive, and in the mileage we get. She seems to only have two positions: full throtle or full brake. When she is driving it drops to 19 real fast. Shortly after I get behind the wheel, it pops back up to mid 20s. I drive fast, accelerate when needed, but not pounding the throotle from every stoplight I think she has only used teh manual shifting once, going down the steep hill from teh cabin while I was fishing.
