Sport Package really worth it?
Hello all,
Currently working with a dealership with ordering a 2011 135i. Here's my dilemma: I actually like the stock wheels on the 135. So, aside form them, is the M package really worth it? There really isn't a performance increase, is there? Have any of you out there, regretted getting or NOT getting the sport package? Just an opinion if it's worth the $$$$? Cheers |

even with a sport pack you can get the regular wheels, only the m sport gets you the 261 m wheels. that said, go sit in a car that has a sport pack and sport seats, then sit in a standard car- you will know the difference right away

I do recommend getting the M sports package, but definitely get the sports package at least. With the 2010 the difference between sport and M sport was $200 and it gave you the anthracite headliner and the M-sport wheels. The main reason to get a sport package for me was the shadowline trim. I really don't care for chrome.

My 135i is BMW # 5 for me and my first one was not the sport package and I regret I did not have the sport package.
I guess it comes down to how you drive and want the car to handle. You could go without the sport package and get after market wheels but there is most likely some other goodies they throw in on the sport package to make worthwhile for you. Even though I have the sports package I replaced my wheels and tires. I got rid of the run flats and from tire Rack I got tires and wheels for about the same price of tires alone locally.

My 08 128 does not have the SP.
I only wish I had the seats. IMO, I dont need to have any stiffer of a ride, the non SP is stiff enough! Was in Vermont few weeks ago, even with the Non SP was it was getting my fillings loose! Also I upgraded to 17" SP wheels. If you can get just the SP seats, and wheels, I dont see the need to have any harsher /stiffer of a ride. I do believe you gotta get the SP to get the seats tho. |

I didn't have Sport package on my last BMW because it was an Xi, and on the 3 Series, the Sport package is the suspension and the wheels. If you have an Xi, then the package is only the wheels and not the suspension but they still charged you full price, despite only getting half the equipment. Pretty cheesy if you ask me.
Now that I have the 1, it is worth it. Definitely. Even on my wife's Mini, she got all the Sports stuff, she never had it before, and she says she will always have it from now on.

I think the OP is asking about the sport package vs the M-sport package. He is not even considering the non-sport.
Both the M-port and sport packages have the shadowline trim, /M steering wheel, /M gear shift and the same sport seats. The only thing the M-sport offers over the regular sport is a black headliner (instead of gray), //M dead pedal, //M door sills and M261 wheels (vs the 264 wheels). The wheels sizes are the same and so are the tires. The //M dead pedal and door sills can easily be added for around $100 at any time. So if the OP likes the standard wheels over the M-sport wheels and does not care about the headliner then I would say go with the regular sport package. |

No way would I have purchased the car without the M-S package. Those seats are way to good to pass up. I like those wheels much better. Not to mention I like the little ///M on the door sills and steering wheel. |

OP- The sport pack is kind of a rip on the 135 if you don't mind chrome you then ask yourself if the seats and an M wheel (that I actually don't like) are worth 1100- many would say yes. The seats are great but I wouldn't say a no-brainer- see which seat and wheel you prefer- those are the differences. As for M-sport- if you like the stock wheel better why bother for the headliner? FWIW as much as I liked the seats I disliked the M wheel and probably wouldn't have gone sport on a 135 for 1100 seats and a wheel I didn't like. On my 128 I think sport is a no-brainer with the suspension, seats, wheels/tires and trim. Last edited by Monterra; 03-23-2010 at 01:09 PM.. |

I really like my sport seats in my 128i convertible. I am 6'2" and about 180 lbs so I fit into them easily. I have a customer who is a little taller and significantly wider and he did not fit. Unless you do not fit, I would think you would really like the sport seats. If you test drive, remember that the side bolstering moves in and out with a switch on the outside. It is powered even when you have manual adjust seats (like I have). So you might have to adjust them out some if you are bigger than the last driver but I would think most people will fit.
I find them very comfortable even for long drives but they are especially useful if you start to approach the cornering limits. If you have the side bolsters adjusted tight to your body, you will stay pretty planted - versus sliding around I'm sure on the stock seats. In the one autocross I did, I was very happy to be able to stay put rather than having to shift back to where I belong after every turn. Jim

Everyone says the sport package is worth it for the seats. Personally, I tried both and judged it not worth the extra expense.
What I *DO* wish I had gotten was the Premium Package, just for that adjustable lumbar support that is unavailable any other way. (Didn't realize just how much I missed having it until it wasn't there anymore.) YMMV. |
