Put some VMR 810's awhile ago, but today was the first time I've had to clean them. They look great, but man are they a PITA to clean compared to the 264's I was running before! How do people clean these things? Is there a special brush or preferred technique you use? I'm all ears...

Sonax Full Effect wheel cleaner + your favorite brush or sponge (lots of options, I use wheel woollies), then Armor All Wheel Protectant when they're clean. Sonax will blow through most things so very little scrubbing is required if you do it semi-frequently. Some people prefer wheel wax, but it's more work than I'm willing to do for wheels.

I also use Sonax wheel cleaner. Really works great and requires minimal scrubbing after application. My 207M wheels are a pain to clean and need lots of different brushes to get between the spokes.

Hmm... $18 to do 8 wheels? I'll have to think about that... ;-) maybe I'll try it and buy the big refill if it looks good.

Any brush recommendations? Damn things look expensive too...

I just use the BMW wheel cleaner, read somewhere it was rebranded Sonax but Internet rumor mill. Still it works pretty well.

Yeah, front wheel dust was such a drag I switched to EBC Redstuff front pads. End of problem. Not a track pad but for the street- perfect.

I hit them with the foam cannon and just clean them with car soap and a wheel woolie. My OEM 262s are pretty easy to clean though, nice wide gaps. Since I wash them every week when I wash the car, there's never any built up gunk.

Actually, with these Meyle ceramic pads I installed, now that they've bedded in properly, dust doesn't really seem to be an issue anymore...

I do not recommend armor all on tires. I have seen it cause issues.

Over here in Germany I use P21S wheel cleaner. After buying this 0.5 liter spray bottle, I buy the wheel cleaner either in a 1l or 5l bulk jug. The 1l refill runs me about 8 euros and the 5l runs about 35 euros.

I love this stuff bc it changed color to a dark black/purple once its ready to be washed off the wheel with water. Can't say enough good things about this product.

PS: I know someone going to say that Sonax has a similar product, but I have tried it and I wasn't so impressed with it.

I think the poster is suggesting using the armor all wheel protectant. I've also had great experience with it. Keeps my wheels clean much longer and they clean up with soap and water.

I know you're asking about fiddly mags, I've just got the stock mags (dipped black too, which I'd really recommend for our cars. Black mags are the best thing for brake dust).

But I got 40x microfiber cleaning clothes from Bunnings (I guess Wall mart would be the US equivalent) - each about 11"x15". After you've followed the suggestions from everyone above to get your mags shining and polished once, I just spend 5 minutes twice a week (daily driver) with a dry microfiber cloth to clear away the brake dust.

Alternatively, whenever they get visibly dusty use one wet cloth with nothing but water (so you don't remove your wax), then dry them with a different microfiber cloth. (You use a total of 8 cloths for this, one wet, one dry per wheel)

Just throw the used cloths into a bucket then put them all through the wash at the end of the week.

(Same method works great for keeping the black paint clean too - once you've cleaned the car, if you spend 5 minutes every few days with a dry microfibre cloth, you don't wash off your wax and can go a lot longer between washes)

^^I also like using it. It really cuts down on brake dust. But IF you get any over spray on the rotors... it feels like the brakes don't really "bite" at first.

I think that is a different product - made by the same company(Dr. Wack in Ingolstadt).

The stuff I use has a thick cherry color(& smell) and works really well. I've used that green stuff, and while it works well... the German P21S stuff works better.
