Melbourne Hail

I hope none of our Melbourne 1'er owners had their pride and joys parked out in the open when the hailstorm hit today. I've seen the footage on TV and it was amazing...

I got smashed on Alexandra Ave. Only one visible dent (So far), on my bonnet despite getting hit with up to 15 hailstones. Fkn idiots blocking the freeway who'd stopped in the middle of the road didn't help matters. I was so annoyed i decided belting it down the Eastern towards home would speed up the process...At 140 and the car starting to skate I decided it probably wasn't the best course of action...

Totti, I feel for ya ... it would be a horrible feeling. I've only been in light hail out in the car and that was bad enough, let alone the size of that stuff! Hope the damage isn't too bad.

That is crazy. I'm not complaining about no rain for about 104 days any more :-)

Thankfully my car has been parked undercover while I've been enjoying the sunshine in WA.

I'm more worried about the potential flooding inside my house when i return tonight!

Totti, I am sorry, but I am with MickyD here. I am far from a saint here, but 140 in those conditions, however short the burst was, just isn't smart. But hey, we all do stupid stuff like that from time to time, but lets admit we are wrong when we clearly are.

i think Totti knows. but what i hate with a passion is people slamming on the brakes at the slightest hint of rain, or a plastic bag blowing across the highway, or their phone ringing, a touch of fog. i drive the m5 tollway everyday and 90% of australian drivers are completely unaware of what they are doing to other people behind them.

But at first i read your post so quickly i thought your whole point of slowing down was that at 140kph more hail would hit your car then at 80, ha ha. i bet some egg head has worked out what speed causes the least amount of hail to hit your car. like whether to walk or run in the rain.

I'm pretty sure most of the depots are under cover, at least the 'prestige'' area. All around Fowlers and the back where Prix car, Finemores, where most of the cars get transported from etc are shadeclothed, so I thinks you'd be pretty safe.

Can you let give us an idea how long between when the ship docked to when you end up getting the keys?
My ship is due in on the 21st to Melb, and I was hoping to get delivery before Easter.

cheers

BMW Melbourne have cars all under cover.

Totti, sorry to hear that mate.

I missed out the storm all together. I went away on the long weekend and the 1er was in the garage....

I did not miss the rain though.. braving the thunderstorm though riding up at Mt Hotham on my push bike (stupid idea)... Able to finish the ride I sign up for. Very happy.

Thanks for the info, bit more comforting, needless to say ill be over it with a fine toothed comb...

My car docked on the Wed 24th Feb from memory, and its being delivered to me Fri 14th March (will be ready Thu but ive organised for Fri morning pickup), so that makes 16 days. Dealer told me they had put in a priority request for it off the docks???

Found another dent yesterday. Dunno whether it's worth it to get fixed (Anyone have any idea of how much paintless dents would be to pop out)...

My car was parked outside in the city while the hail came down...
It's got dents all over the bonnet, roof and boot!

Never claimed anything with insurance before, does anyone know what the process is?
Do I call the insurance company first or do I take it to a BMW body shop first?
I am with BMW insurance if that helps.

My GF had a minor rear ender in the mini, I think she called BMW insurance and then went to BMW body shop in the Docklands, from their she dealt with the guy and the body shop.

Very Simple actually.

Good Luck with the repair and claim.
