When should I put on my winter set?

I have searched and can't seem to find the answer. I have never used winters before but I ordered them this year and just got them. I am traveling a fair amount this year and didn't want to get stranded. I live in the middle of Missouri and probably won't see snow until early Dec. I was wondering about the treadlife of the winters, do they wear faster than summer tires? How much life will I get out of these things? I bought the Continental ExtremeWinterContact... I drive about 1500 miles a month, if I put them on today, will they last me all winter or should I wait until the last possible second to put them on?

Even if you keep them on for 6 months, that's 9k miles. I've been getting 3-4 winters out of a set of snows driving about the same. You should be able to go at least 3 winters.

Thanks man. I will put them on this weekend per your advice, the no treadwear rating kinda scared me.

Noticed you are in Norwalk. My brother is in Stamford (huge enthusiast). I am sure you 2 have seen each other doing triple digits on the merritt.

I've heard people getting upwards up 30K-40K miles on a set of snows. All depends on how well you can control your right foot over those few months. Keep in mind, winter tires have two wear marks. A taller one for snow traction, and the typical mark for road worthiness. Not sure at what mark the 30K people were replacing.

My rears were significantly more worn than my fronts after 5K last winter. Fronts still look practically new...and I have much warmer winters which I imagine would increase wear rate.

Hahahaha, I drive by ICS twice a day to get to my office. I've probably seen every single one of those. Small world!

I got 4 winters out of my icebears on my sti when I was in stl. I usually switched over in October. Once the lows start going under 40 it's time.
