Outrageous local tyre shop mark ups
I tried a couple of local tyre shops to quote on some 19 inch Goodyear F1 Asymetric 2's for my Z. I thought these were a relatively cheap tire - thought I'd save some cash instead of going all out and buying Michelin PSS.
One wanted $900 per tyre for the rears and the other wasn't much different!!!! I told them where to go and the fact that I wasn't even buying RFTs. The same tyres can be bought from the US for around $250 per tire. Is there anywhere in Australia that sells tyres for cheap and ships too?? |

It depends on size and weight, I have purchased several sets and shipping varied from 350-450USD. You can ask for shipping quote.

I ordered a set of 18in Goodyear Eagle F1 A2 approx 14 months ago from Tirerack and can say it's definately worth it. I paid around $800 for the set of four + $350 shipping (so $1150 total) rather than the $2000+ here for the same size. Ridiculous!
Obviously just watch the $1k GST/duty threshold if ordering more expensive 19in tyres too. |

I ordered from Tirerack a while ago, shipping was US$280. Had a set of 18" PSS landed for US$1200. AUD was at parity at the time so it was a no brainer

You could ask Stuart at Advan Performance in Sydney. He's given me a cracking price for a set of Michelin PSS and I'd highly recommend phoning him.

Evans tends to focus more on installing equipment, vehicle maintenance and race preparation (particularly BMW and Mini). They have been responsible for both my vehicles since 2011. |

+1 for Chris at Tyre Power North Melbourne.
btw, they are also the Australian distributor for Megan Racing, as in adjustable suspension arms (as an alternate to the M3 arms). |

for michelin PSS from tirerack
still cheaper than buying it locally imho Jared: Total Due. $1,194.39 for those 4 tires shipped to you. Jared: They would ship via Fed Ex and would arrive in approximately 1-2 weeks. Jared: I hope that helps Jared: Is there anything else I can help you with today? ... Jared: it is basically $210 to ship 2 tires Jared: and $260 to ship 4 tires ... Jared: so it is about $675 per set if you do 2 and 2 Jared: it will end up costing you $200 more doing it that way http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....e&autoModClar=

Generally pay about $250 for a set of tyres to Melbourne with about a week lead time for delivery. Payment process is probably the longest part, as it needs to be a direct bank transfer with Tirerack. Got my michi pss landed for about 1200..have been amazing to date!

I'll also throw in tempe tyres - they list on ebay but give them a call and they'll do better to avoid ebay fees!
Usually solid pricing. Beat every shop up here by a mile. |

With the dollar now in the 80s its a bit of a bummer as US$924 hits the A$1000 mark. I'd also be interested in the tax.
I looked at the 225/255 combo and they were marginally cheaper ($900 for PSS) also noticed the Goodyear F1 Assymetrical2 in 225/255 were US$710 which is obviously cheaper and would come in under the A$1000 |

If your bill comes to $1015AUD, you only pay duties on the value that is over the $1000 threshold which would be $15. Which would be $1.36 in GST in the grand scheme of things..

GST and duty is not applicable if the value of the goods (excluding shipping and insurance) is AUD $1000 or less. If the goods are valued at more than AUD $1000 then 5% duty is payable on the value of the goods, while GST is payable on the value of the goods, duty, shipping and insurance costs. Furthermore, there is a import declaration processing charge of ~$50. There may also be brokerage fees to act on your behalf with Customs. The AUD value is calculated based on the customs advertised exchange rate on the date of export. So if you're calculating based on today's exchange rate (~87c) then keep it under USD $850 and you should be duty/GST free. See the customs website, FAQ - How is duty and GST calculated?. Quote:
