New 135i or Used M3? Opinions...
Hi everyone..I have always been a big fan of Bimmers (the look, quality..all excellent!) and am now considering becoming an owner (finally!) My question to all of you out there (esp the owners) is this: given similar price range, is a new 135i or a 2004-6 used M3 (with low mileage of course) a better choice? I know the M carries a gas guzzler issue with it, but it's SUCH a beautiful car that I have to hear some others opinions! Thanks for any and all input guys.....:roundel:

Owning Bimmers outside of warranty is a great risk. They cost a lot to fix if/when needed. I wouldn't buy a high-dollar used one without some sort of decent BMW warranty.

The new M3 "coupe" is one of the best looking cars I have ever seen, but it is a pig. Only a hair faster then a stock 135i and a LOT less gas MPG. Flash a 135i for 2k and it will be faster then an M3 and pick up another mile or two per gal on it and you will still be 25k under a stock 08 M3. I know your question was about older M3's, and they are nice cars but they are the old generation. If you have one already and want to stick with it that is one thing, but buying an older m3 over a new 135i would not be my first choice. Remember, you only get ONE chance to be "Year One of the 1". Decide soon
Oh..and just give it a few months until the mods start coming out for this car. I think Rocket ship will not begin to describe it.

Is the risk owning a used Bimmer that's out of warranty, or buying a new one and keeping it past it's warranty? I would assume that the risk is potentially buying somebody elses problem, ie they've thrashed the crap outta the ole M3 or such. But, if you purchase new, and know how your vehicle has been treated and you've taken care of it, it shouldn't be much of a bank breaker to own out of warranty, right?

M3 for track use.
135 for street use. And who ever said a 135 is faster... you better be talking about a 135 with a piggyback. And on a track, it may not even matter. |
