Stone Chips

I've recently moved from Sydney to the land of the big boat and fake tit - the Gold Coast. Whilst life has improved, the state of my car certainly hasn't!

After having a large chip in my windscreen repaired using Windscreens O'Brien's gel repair (truly fantastic result - chip is almost invisible), I've noticed a painful number of stone chips in my bonnet and driver's side door. Some are fairly deep gouges which will require touching up, others less deep but given the contrast between the jet black paint and white undercoat, they are fairly noticeable.

Question: I will obviously have to touch up the deeper marks, but is it okay to leave the smaller ones? I'm worried about corrosion but touching up paint always looks a bit shite. Alternatives/suggestions welcomed. Thanks.

I've always been put off by touch up paint (the little nail brush type) as in most cases it ends up making it look worse but i was recently told by a respected Melbourne detailer that slightly wet sanding the area which has been touched up followed by a machine polish by someone who obviously knows what they are doing will result in a very nice repair.

I've got a few minor chips in the bonnet (thanks to trucks on the Monash freeway) but my detailer said not to worry about them as they are not too deep

Welcome to the Gold Coast Hawkeye. Hope you've got a good job because this place is in the shit at the moment and not likely to recover anytime soon. It's also the land of financed BMWs. They are like Falcodores here. Check with Bruce Lyntons re who they use for chips - it'll be someone who knows BMW paint.

Yeah, would have prevented the majority of the bonnet chips, but wouldn't have stopped the shotgun effect on the driver's side of the car.

I curse myself for buying a black car - every mark, chip and blemish is so noticeable.

Thanks Gazz. Will drop by in and see who they recommend. I might end up getting a bonnet respray.

Can get touch-up paint from BMW dealership, think was $40-$50 per paint kit.

Just give thier your paint code.

Got a few stone chips driving on freeway as well.

I'd rather get a professional to do it. I've never had good results with the touch up paints from the dealer in the past.
