Charge me for Mp3!? - Please post on this thread for me
Another lovely experience with Park Ave BMW in NJ this morning....
After giving them my list of things to look into, the main thing I obviously want is CIP 20 and Mp3 retrofit for my pre-sept production E90. The guy informed me that he doesn't believe this is a "free addition". I informed him that it should be and that I know others who have already gotten it for free at other dealers. He went on to say that if in fact they would be charging me would I go to another dealer to get the work done? (It appears they don't want to do the work and want me to go elsewhere). Here is what I'm asking from my fellow forum members: - Post the dealership & state you got your CIP 20 & Mp3 retrofit: - Date of service: - Cost of service: |

To top it all off, they said this all is going to take "days" and they would update me "daily" on the status.
One positive that went on was the guy said "Do you work for BMW or something? I've never seen someone come so prepared with facts and what they need" Thanks to E90post.com of course |

I had the update performed at Prestige BMW (further north on Rt 17). I had a few legitimate problems with iDrive and Bluetooth, so they were going to have to update to CIP20. The mp3 update apparently is a separate software update, but should be free as long as you complain that you don't have mp3 capability (someone posted the TSB on both of these issues a while back).
I had the service perfomed about a week ago. Both updates were free. However, it took a couple of days for the update to be completed. They started work on the car on a Thursday and it was completed on the following Tuesday. I think the CIP update takes about a day. Then when they realized that a separate update was needed for mp3's, that took another day.

I have no idea why it takes so long for some dealers. My dealer took about 6-7 hours to get it done. At least I think he did everything cause my in dash CD player plays MP3's and all.

I once even did the 'Do you know who I am?' and the assistant person said "no" so I told her, she better get what I want done - before she finds out who I am. :-) it worked :-) |

I was told by the sales manager at my dealership that updates were free, were you told the same? If you werent you may have a problem. Remember these updates take forever and they dont always take and they have to start over.
I expect the dealerships to discourage them unless they're needed for a real fix, my BMW assist wasnt sending data for instance. I would wait till you really need the update, I know you dont want to hear that but you should keep in mind some of the issues resulting from updates going wrong.

Call the worthless morons at BMW NA and complain. They won't care and won't help you but at least it will be logged in case someone accidentally looks into it some day.

The only info I have is SPECULATION that the Service Advisor said that he was "pretty sure it would cost me". I will put that all to rest when I show him the TSB, I just need to do that ASAP so my car isn't there for even MORE time! |

I am saying I need to communicate the TSB info for him with the highlighted information stating clearly that it is covered under warranty. Not much anyone can say when that is presented to them. So what I'm saying is the sooner I can do this the better so there is no run-around. |

I got my CIP 20 update and the MP3 retrofit at JMK BMW in NJ. It was Jan. 27. It took about 6-7 hours. Only one day. It was free. Covered under warranty.
I didn't buy my car from them and they even provided me with a loaner through Enterprise.

Park AVE is unbelievable......
The guy calls me and tells me my car is all set, then he tells me how Mp3 retrofit does not exist. I gave him the TSB # and told him it does exist and please look it up for the information on how to do it. He swears that the technicians have no idea how to do it and the option doesn't exist. Also he told me regarding condensation in my headlights that it's normal and to leave them on for 1 hour and see if the condensation goes away. Finally he had to order a piece for my seatbelt to get rid of the infamous clicking sound! |
