Got rear ended

So...pulling into a shopping center I got rear ended. The person hit my rear passenger side bumper. It doesn't seem to be a huge amt of damage but the bumper is popped a little where it meets rear quarter panel. This pic doesn't do it justice.

Worst part is, my car was away for the winter on a trickle charger. We had nice weather yesterday so I decided to take it out for a quick drive. Then bam.

So my question is, this is a low mileage car (2011 135i Convertible w 20k miles). For a rear bumper how important is to ask for OE parts? Should I be concerned about getting OE parts or are aftermarket acceptable for a bumper?

Does anyone know a good website where I can research OE parts? Or are there any cool rear bumpers that I should consider as a replacement? Perhaps the body shop will let me replace it with a different bumper.

Granted, it is not a great picture, but from what I see a competent body shop could probably fix that bumper to make it look more or less like new without replacing it.

If the picture doesn't really show the damage and it is worse than that, you can probably insist on an OEM bumper (if an aftermarket one for this car even exists, of which I would not be sure) given that you are the victim.

Coordinate this with your own insurance company, if you have a good agent or company, that is. They won't pay for it but they can help in getting the company insuring the other driver to treat you fairly.

Lastly, I would not be looking for some other kind of replacement bumper or repair. Just be happy if they can make it look like new again.

Sorry that happened. At least it wasn't on your drivers side where it might've messed with your exhaust.

Bumper cover is around $500, I've been quoted $300 to paint from a BMW shop. You can install yourself (DIY on this site) or have the body shop install for ~1K total.

I have a hole in my bumper cover. I keep waiting to get rear ended so I can get it fixed. I figure if I replace the bumper cover, I'll get rear-ended a week later.

The bumper is an easy repair for a specialty body shop, a dent & paint shop. You can figure on around $400.
