I like this car much better than the M135i (exterior wise). A mate of mine already put a deposit down

again, I don't want a 5 door kiddie hauler, where's the coupe? even a 3 door like the S3 (used to be locally). On the other hand, BMW tried that with the M135 and, IMO, it looks as bad or worse even the the 5 door, a bit to much of an afterthought, like....

E46 compact looks better than it used to! I don't mind that one.

I like it.

Can't wait to hear the exhaust... AMG have said they developed it to make a 'full engined noise'....

also keen to see the CLA AMG.

Looks in this segment of cars is somewhat secondary. Take the Evo or STi, not a pretty face but when you're chasing super cars around mountains passes no one cares. The looks department goes either with the top end super cars or the low end wannabe cars like Hyundai Veloster.
I'm all for the outright performance, many don't like the M135i, so the best place to be is inside one. Then you're not forced to see its ugliness.
I'm glad AMG are building this car, looking forward to seeing what BMW do to compete, I tend to think its gotta be AWD, makes the car so useable everyday on the road.

Wen does the little Merc hit the road locally?

"Due in Australia around October this year priced at about $80,000, the A 45 AMG will be headlined by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four pumping out an incredible 133kW per litre to arrive at 265kW at 6000rpm."

Here is a couple of video's and the specs.
Kills the M135 unless BMW comes up with a true M to compete with this monster
It's going to sell like hotcakes.

It's very farty with gear changes. I presume this is a "feature" as not all DCTs do this. A Golf GTi does, albeit not as overtly.

I still can't get my head around 133 Kw per litre ( 177 HP ) in a Merc' entry level range hatchback.

An early car of mine was the first of the twin cam Corollas, a 1986 model the with the E82 engine. At 1.6 lts it had 86 Kw which was hottish at the time and that equated to 53.75 Kw per litre! The next model went to 100 Kw yet that is still only 62.5 Kw / ltr.

I know people like to knock Toyotas but I had that car for 18 years and all I ever spent on it was for services, batteries, tyres and 2 replacement mufflers. Started first turn every time. At one stage I hadn't driven it for nearly 2 years; put a new battery in, turned it over and it started straight away. I wonder if our modern cars will have this kind of longevity and long term reliability?

the other thing that bugs me about both cars the starting price ($70K) to the end price of $95K.....thats a hell of a lot for hatch back.....

sure the same argument can be made against the 1M but it was a limited release car.....somehow i just can justify the $ for M135i or A45....not matter how fast it is. Especially since a mate of mine just picked up a Megane 265 Trophee + for sub $42K.

that was the model which had "twin cam 16" across the doors. Bullet proof engine, however the body was prone to rust.

Obviously haven't test driven one yet, but 2.0L 4cyl for that sort of $$ is too much. Main reason I decided to join the dark side.. lol was BMW offered 6cyl mid-range beauty.

Even though you shouldn't compare an AMG with a M marketing product they are about the same price point. I kind of quite like it - I think this should replace the X3 .

I pulled out on a 80 kay rd last weekend - booted it to 80 and stepped off just as a HP came into view. He pulled left to do the Scandinavian flick - then didn't bother after we passed.
He prob thought I had had a hard day at the salon and left me alone - doubt that would happen if you're in low flying wing covered thing - STI, etc etc

Bit bland for me. And surprisingly few Mercedes styling cues . . . if you changed the badge it could be almost be a VW or Skoda

I wonder if you could call the styling disingenuous in that MB seems to be downplaying its boy racer intentions whilst knowing that that is exactly who it must appeal to.
Opens the door for an A class Black Series at $130,000.

Well my Elise S will be here in June. Manual RWD and 4.6 sec to 100km/h.

Probably more of a cop magnet though 😉
