What madness . . . Personally i really would love it to say M1 ... an M1 badge on the back of that car would look just perfect IMO ..
Just my $0.02

We should do that. That would be awesome! I had a lot of fun driving the 135i around the track, I can't imagine how much fun the M1/M Turbo would be.

I still don't think M Turbo make sense either - it is not the first turbo ///M, we know the new ///M3 would be a turbo as well - to me it just doesn't make sense.
If it's a spiritual successor to 2002 - then ///M 2002 still doesn't make sense as the current capacity is 2979. ///M Coupe was used on the Z cars because you had the ///M Roadster. However, ///M3 and then ///M6 had a coupe as well making ///M Coupe still a possibility. While ///M2 is illogical looking at the current lineup, it might be useful for BMW moving forward introducing the 2 series, and Z2s. I don't think anyone would have any problem calling it the 2 series. If BMW is confused on which one to use - how about ///M1-2C, while C stands for coupe?

C can stand for Coupé and Convertible. If you want to differentiate, you have to add one or two other letters. Cou and Con for english, Co and Ca for german, french....
I personally think it will either be ///M1 or ///M2. As the new F20 will come out soon, and it will be called 1 Series, and first be available as 5 door Hatch and then 3 door Hatch, the 1 Series Coupé and Convertible, E82 and E88 will still continue production. As they will be the only E8x, BMW may just name them 2 Series, and so M2. I do not think that the "M1" will be called M Coupé because, so was called the Z4 M Coupé. And if the M E82 will be called M Coupé, how will the M E88 be called? M Convertible? It will not be M135i as M does not want to have these numbers in this car. M Tii will also not be, as in the next 1 and 3 Series there wll be Tii models under M models. They will be different, so M and Tii cannot be together. I think there are only two possiblities: ///M1 or ///M2 |

with the rumors that BMW is moving the 1 series to a 4cyl fwd/awd platform, it would make sense that there would be a 2 series to maintain the 6cyl/rwd performance of the coupe.

BMW was only producing I4's and I6's up to 3.3 litre's the Original M1 was increased up to 3.5 litre's and 4 valves per. Not a really an accurate comparison?? And I believe that the M1 badge was depicting the first "M" car not a series. All that being Said, I would not be against re-using the M1 Badge.

This whole thread is about the fact that they won't be naming the 1 series M car "M1". Since you can care less, you still have room for doing so.

Here's a random thought for a name. How about take a page out of Porsche's book and call it something like the ///M Clubsport? Not very likely I know, but just thought I'd throw it out there.

I was trying to think outside of the square, which from South post learned about more about the M division.
The Letter ///M will be there, and it needs to have another word to describe the series if 1///M is not used. Remember ///M Coupe was used because you have the ///M Roadster. Which makes me think ///M Coupe would not be used on the 1er. Although ///M Compact sounds a bit rediculous, it might be a start off a thought of what is the name they chose. What other words can we described the 1 sereis as a whole?

Or they could take a page out of Holden's books and call it the ///M Superclubby
