I found that out online.

With Comfort Access, once you get out of the car, if you just touch the door handle, the car locks. However, if you keep your finger on the door handle (where the little ridges are) for 2-3 seconds, the car locks, the windows close, and the side mirrors fold in. The mirrors unfold upon unlocking the car.

Ingress and Egress into the drivers seat - I did come out of an F150 though to this car.

Bump thump of the hard run flats.

Busy ride on certain roads-unlike previous 5's I have had that were always composed, but not as sharp handlers either...

Complicated cruise control that is simply not intuitive to Ford guy

Ah and the cup holders! While Germans still know how to build cars with great ashtrays (not used) they are lost on cup holders, the rear one is jammed, and the front passenger one is ready to break, they are engineered afterthoughts - unlike most everything else about the car...at least you do not have to look at them when not used!

Other things like the radio are the esoteric things that make a BMW special and unique. Ever check out a chintzy Mercedes C class contols?

These E90s are simply great 4 door Sports cars!

- Outside mirrors too small
- Window controls difficult to reach
- Center armrest too small and uncomfortable (BMW should take a lesson from VW and have one that slides forward yet takes up little *******
- Location of cruise control, also confusing to use
- Run flat tires with no spare

That's about it. Still a great car and IMO by far the best in class. Now if I could just find a way of getting my wife to trade in her 4-Runner for a five.

umm you guys have got to be kidding me about the cruise, it's actually pretty simple

hit the button to set speed, pull towards you to lower speed by 1mph pull towards you if you pull it with more force (past the break point) you'll reduce the set speed by 5mph. To go faster just push it away from you (same 1mph/5mph depending on how far you push it) to cancel hit the brakes or move the lever up or down.

I agree, the CC is easy to use. A couple of times soon after I got my car, I accidently tapped the CC stalk instead of the turn signals, but I'm used to it now.

I recently got a copy of the E90 product information guide from a dealer who knew I already had a brochure and, in it, BMW states that the brakes are "lightly applied" when needed in the standard dynamic cruise control for U.S. spec models. Thought this was interesting. The whole guide gives details about all of the components/parts/options/construction of the E90. Not sure if anybody else knew this info

This is a feature I have been most waiting for. In Australia they are speed nazis and in some jurisdictions going just 1km/h over the limit will get you a fine so this feature is mandatory because a standard cruise will pick up speed on declines. Luckily where I live they give you 10Km/h leeway.

Yes, only applies to cars with DSC II. 4 cylinder models e.g. 320d, 320i do not get this feature in their cruise control.

Generally I like my E90 but there is always thing´s to improve:
Side mirrors not warming on damp morning (should be a switch for it )
no storage for really anything
too small glove box
run-flats
my alarm not working ( been to the service 4 times)
armrest too small ( should slide forward )

Yes and they also don't get the dreaded 'soft stop' lurch on the steptronics

How many miles on your car? The brakes feels much better after ~600-1000miles. And only after that can you feel softstop in operation.

I don't have mine yet - the problem I have like carnuts3. I had the problem on a demonstrator I drove, it had about 500km on the clock, and I figured it was the soft-stop and the auto transmission's desire to 'creep' that caused the problem, this was the final thing that made me go for the manual.

A friend has a step, and he was told the same thing by his dealer that the breaks would get better after some time. I still think it is a software thing - soft stop goes to stop then softly releases brakes, then auto creep takes over and the car lurches, the computer sees this and clamps down again.

findtom wrote in part, "Also, if I like to have the foglights on while I'm driving I'd rather not have to turn them on every time I get in the car."
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Fog lights are for use during foggy conditions only and serve only to annoy other motorists during normal weather conditions. The automatic off feature is for this reason.

Just past 1100 miles. Ran the engine up to 5500RPM. What an amazing engine...

But as to some things that I'd like to have addressed on next generation/model year:

1. Side mirrors are small. Looks cool and aerodynamically sound - Yes. Useful for seeing stuff in blind spots - no. I've learned to adjust them further out than what I was used to previously.

2. iDrive takes a couple of seconds to respond, as well as the voice recognition - sort of - "What were you saying?" type of pause.

3. Would like to program iDrive to return to whatever screen that was in the previous mode when the engine is shut off or phone conversation stops.

4. Cupholder in middle console is pretty useless. Nice aircon feature to keep stuff cold, but ergonomically, its very much in the way if you keep a drink there.

Really cool stuff:

Lighting - the ambient lighting inside, the blue LEDs on door handles, and angle eyes. Watch other manufacturers adding this to their repertoire very soon.

The brake on - hill assist when braking on a hill, it stays on for a 1/4 secon longer to allow you to move foot from brake to clutch without rollback. Absolutely brilliant and makes a ton of sense for hilly manual stops & shifts.

All these things are pretty minor when compared to the driving bliss that is attained when taking some S curves well. Engine, handling, and braking are all fantastic.

The only thing is that my Canadian 2010 323 only has one 12v plug in the arm rest. No ashtray option any more. I can't find a adaper for my phone, radar, or GPS that will fit with the arm rest closed...This is an oversite as now a days these are all normal items in a car!! BUT IT DOES DRIVE LIKE A DREAM..I will have to DIY a second plug in the glove bax.
