Reprogramming the clown nose???
I'm a happy owner of a new 325i and I was surprised to see that the alarm system it's not part of the vehicule.
Can somebody tell me if we can reprogramming the clown nose to flash when we lock the door? In fact, I think that we have just to let the impression that we have an alarm system operational, don't you think??? |

Roussepi, I too was a bit shocked that the alarm system was not included with the car. I believe that we've become used to hearing car alarm noises now a days, that it doesn't matter anymore. And if a car alarm goes off, people don't even bother to take a second look to see if its their car; they just let it go off untill they step outside or untill it turns off after a few minutes. I agree with you on the clown nose, I wouldn't mind to see it flashing when its locked up.

It is for this reason I had the dealership install the factor alarm before I bought the vehicle.
When I lock my door, I hear one piezoelectric tone sound. When I unlock, I hear two sounds (in sequence). Do you owners without the alarm system still hear this sound? |

Get one at Pacificbmw.com for ~$230 and install it yourself. It should take you 30 min. Piece of cake. You'll get these worked w/o activation: clown nose indicator flashing, ultrasonic sensor and door-open detection. If you want the hood-open detection and piezoelectric sound, you'll need to have the dealer programmed it for $100-$150.

Somewhat on the subject manner, the owners manual shows on the door locking I-drive confirmation the option of an audio confirmation. My I-drive screen doesn't show this. Anybody else have this issue?

It amazes me how we all fork over big bucks for the car including excessive amounts for small options like comfort access, then don't want to pay for an alarm system so that the clown nose will blink and the car will chirp when it is locked and unlocked. I negotiated a good price for the alarm and had it installed before delivery and now I don't have to worry about it. It gives me good piece of mind when I leave my car in a parkade, if nothing else. Relative to what I paid for the car the price is small.

I got the alarm and the chirp is actually pretty good. Not your typical annoying alarm sound.

Everything on a BMW is extra so why not the alarm to. $450.00 is small price to pay + insurance discount is nice! |

Sounds are only available with the alarm. The alarm module that sits in the rear roof lighting console has the chip set in it for lighting the clown nose so without the alarm, there is nothing to activate it. I think BMW's choice to make it an alarm only option is pretty shitty since options like these are standard on everything from the least expensive Honda Civic to the utterly useless US cars like Cavaliers.

As I understand it this "alarm" is only a siren that sounds due to physical break in. So it really only protects contents of the car. It's not like someone can drive it off if you don't have the alarm.
As for the stupid red clown nose, I hate it, it is one of the most disgusting interior features I have ever seen. What makes it worse is that it's put in a car and by default has no function whatsoever. This is nothing more than a way to lower the listed price and then jack the buyer for more cash at sale time. Why on earth isn't it configured to flash when the car is locked? So it's the case that if you don't pay additional for the alarm the car doesn't even beep when you lock/unlock it? I was really gung ho about buying a 325xi a couple of weeks ago, but the more I look into the problems (mainly tires) and additional costs that keep piling on top, I think I might be swaying back towards the A4 2.0TQ |
