1/4 mile
What is the 1/4mile time for a stock 135i. Was at the track last night as was running 14.40. It was about 90 outside last night so that had an effect. And was spinning out on the track so that hurt the time.

That's a bit slow. First time to the track in the 135i?
Post the entire slip. The 60ft and trap speed tell more of the story and where you can improve. |

Ya first time running it on the track. I think the biggest problem was it was windy and since im in the desert their was a little sand on the track so the tires where breaking lose going down the track.

Looking at times for some of the other cars that ran last night. Seems we where all off about a second from what is the optimal stock time. Must have been a bad night. A 2009 GTR was running 12.9 last night. 2010 Mustange GT was running 14.8-15.2. So its either the altitude we are at (3700ft). It was humid last night from all the rain around us. Sand blowing on the track (wind was blowing towards the racers front ends). So seeing how bad everyone was running i dont feel bad.

Are those your only slips?
The 60ft are very average so it looks like you had a hard time launching? I'm assuming your manual transmission. You can shave off about 0.2 easily with a good launch. As for the trap speed you seem to be making normal power for a stock 135i. I think the conditions must not have been the best based on your slips. |

I was about to ask the elevation and seems your quite high. Seems consistent with the other cars. At least you have a baseline slip and now you can see the effect of any mods you do in the future. I recommend changing the stock RFTs to normal tyres too.

I just used the density altitude calculator from last night and with the conditions from last night it was like we where at 6486 ft above sea level. And the humidity was 65%. The cars a steptronic. First time driving an auto on a track need to find out the sweet spot to launch at. Heres the other 2 slips I got. The one I posted was my last race.
1st race Reaction time 1.184 redlight no dial-in 0.000 breakout no 60 ft 2.522 speed 78.58 660ft 9.713 elapsed time 14.699 speed 102.45 2nd race Reaction 0.966 redlight no dial in 0.000 breakout no 60 ft 2.436 speed 79.08 660ft 9.554 elapsed time 14.520 speed 102.88 |

Noticed after 80mph the speed increase was much slower. Timing and boost must have changed due to the stock intercooler heat soaking. Doesnt help when its almost 90 outside at night.

90 is pretty hot so that would not have helped your situation however as mentioned above I think the real problem is in your launch, 2.3 - 2.5 60ft time is way too high. It should be 2.0 if not less and that will put you into high 13s but you had sand on the track so that will be hard to do. I know someone who ran a 13.3 in a stock 335 so there is much room for you to improve with a better track.

Thanks for the additional information, it tells more of the whole story.
The 60ft in the last slip is 2.5 which is well below average for our cars. I think if work getting the launches consistently around the 2.0-2.1 mark which is easily achievable on RFT's with good tread on stock power you will see yourself into the 13.5-13.9 range. Also, given how high you are you're going to struggle to see good times consistently, but this should affect everyone and not just you. From your reaction time it seems like you're taking your time with the launch but I'd go whenever you're completely ready. What rpm are you launching at in the steptronic? If all else fails try starting in 2nd. I haven't tried this myself but I've been told it works. Also try shifting manually after 6000rpm but before redline. |

This reminds me of Top Gear UK where F1 drivers make tons of excuses. No offense meant at all though. I wish I knew of a drag strip to test my car on. Jealous n hope to see a video of your 1/4 mi.!! Especially on a better day!

I think the OP's observations are relevant. I have been to the drags where I was consistently slower than my previous visit but the other 135i's that I had been with were experiencing the same problems as me that same night. It seemed the conditions did have an affect on all the cars.

You're observations are definitely valid OP. Now to take the edge off, enjoy this drag video!
