What make a DINAN
Whats up guys, im looking to pick up a 1 series in the next few days and im stuck between 2. A silver with mods like jb4 and downpipes etc. But there is also one that is DINAN stage 2. Sad to say im not 100% on what makes it a DINAN. I know its a combo of performance mods but what does that mean when i get that car? Can i still do mods like exhaust, DP's and so on... if there is none? And if i can when i put them on do i have to have DINAN do a retune.
Here is the car im talking about http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=596400 |

Generally a Stage II Dinan Flash requires the Dinan Oil Cooler so Id say it has the software and the oil cooler at a minimum. It definitely does not have the Dinan Exhaust. I would ask the owner to provide service records from BMW to determine what has been installed. Also, if you have the last 7 of the VIN number you can call Dinan directly to see whats been installed (only if the parts were registered).
Good Luck! |

Dinan Stage 2 can mean a lot of things. My car is Dinan badged, so unlike the people above, I know what I'm talking about.
Dinan badge requires 10 points. This can be any combination that totals to 10 and you can check on their website what each mod is worth. Having a car listed as "Dinan Stage 2" means that either the software is stage 2 or the suspension is stage 2 or both. Those are the only kits sold in stages. Software is just software. It does NOT require the oil cooler on the 135i. The suspension is front sway, springs, shocks. These upgrades coupled together significantly impact handling and performance in a good way. Now, it's up to the seller to tell you if he did one or both of these things, but that still brings him/her 3 points shy of the 10 needed for a badge. Quickest way to get there is an exhaust (3 points), so that's highly likely... however, Dinan is now selling branded versions of the 1 that come with floor mats and the CF intake (not installed as it's illegal in CA for non-track). Good luck! |

You gotta watch out for those illegal floor mats, Cali hates those things, jk. As for the car, it says in the link that its just the Dinan Stage 2 software. And it looks like thats really the only mod this car has. |

yes for the particular car you have linked the only Dinan upgrade is the ECU flash software. it also means the car is equipped with an oil cooler either from BMW or Dinan (I guess not all came with it stock?)

It's the same flash for all N54, which is why this is listed since early 335's didn't come with an Oil Cooler. |

I actually just bought a 135i with the Dinan Stage 2 Software in it, and I have to say, I like it better than my previous 135i with the JB3 tune. Both cars were stock except for the tune.
That said, if I were personally buying a tune, I would still buy the JB3 because for the money it is the best tune. But if you have the money or can get it for free like I did when I bought the car, its a great tune. So I know there are alot of people with opinions but I thought one from someone who has had both is worth posting. Jeff |
