Backing Plates Now Available for 1M

Some of you may recall the picture of my glowing front rotors from last weekend at Summit Point. (Picture here: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=608472)

This led to my having discussions with James Clay at Bimmerworld about the very nice carbon fiber backing plates that they sell and which they use on their E92 M3 Grand Am car (which has far stronger, top-line Performance Friction calipers/rotors). http://store.bimmerworld.com/carbon-...tes-p1412.aspx

Sure enough, James fit them to an M3 with stock brakes (which, of course, are identical to our 1M brakes) and made the necessary modifications in their shop last week.

According to him, they took ¼” of the outside lip off the outside of the backing plates with a belt sander. They also cut a notch in the plate to fit the stock caliper. (If you're interested, the cut template for this mod is at http://www.flickr.com/photos/4691130...7628105653030/.) Finally, they clearanced the back face of the plate slightly to allow the stock bracket to fit completely correct.

My set is now in the mail.

Neil

Good question, but I've yet to figure that out.

Likely that I'll either cut 3" holes in the sides of the right and left-side ducting (to the auxilliary radiator and oil cooler) or "hang" the hose underneath.
