Same size F&R on stock rims?

According to the sticky, my 128i w/sport has the same 47mm offset on front and back rims but the fronts are 7 inches wide and the rears are 7 1/2. I would prefer a bit more grip in the front for my occasional autocross use and I also like to rotate tires. I am thus considering getting the stock rear size, 225/45-17 on all 4 corners. I am aware that the tire will not sit identically on wheels of different widths but it seems like I am within the capability of a 7 inch wide wheel and I should be able to rotate for DD duty (not track).

Comments?

Jim, the Tire Rack site indicates that the 225/45R17 size fits rim widths of 7 to 8.5 inches, so your idea seems logical. Perhaps Gill can give a definitive answer.

While the staggered DWS on my 128i are certainly acceptable, I might also want to "go square" when replacement time comes.

Reverse staggered is normally for FWD cars. But I wouldn't recommend rotating your staggered wheels even if it had the same tire size. If anything, find a pair of fronts and put them on the rear.

I wouldn't recommend rotating the rear wheels to the front, but the tire size will fit both wheels.
