Thanks Dan,

I have watched every video and heard all the sounds clips. Yours are great!

....but I need to hear it myself inside.

I am going for a ride in a friends car in 1 hour, and he has the Performance Exhaust. I will let you know.

Was mine too loud for you? Because the performance exhaust is def. quieter than it.

Still loving mine, the sound is there when you want it. To me with Riss catted DP's the 135 sounds like something way more exotic then it is. Windows up, the exhaust is unobtrusive, I really couldn't be more happy. I have had Supersprints on my 95 M3 to quiet, Rogue Engineering now on that car, not bad, on my 95 LTW I have a B&B (2nd one) first one cracked, loud but fits the character of the car, my 01 330xi I had a B&B was to loud, (for sale BTW, the exhaust that is) now running a UUC exhaust still very loud but looks good, Borla on my 90 M3 JS car, looks so so, sound ok (car for sale) all in all I have to say, and I never thought I would say it dollar for dollar, and for sound the BMW Performance Exhaust for my 135 left me pleasantly and thrilled with my purchase. Like it so much I have one for a 335xi my wife bought and is waiting for delivery.

Is there anyway that I can get the tips to sit farther in when I have it installed? Can they cut the stock pipe a little more or is that just how it's gonna be without the Performance CF diffusor?
I heard about someone taking the tips to a shop and "trimming" them off at an angle. It did look pretty sick.

Just got the performance installed a few hours ago. If you have nothing to compare to, 2k rpm on second gear sounds as loud as about 4k stock. You will notice it... it's not subtle but not annoying.

My only complaint: the tips stick out! Now I gotta buy the cf diffusor or figure out how to trim it and put the stock tips back on.

I got to hear the exhaust, and it sounds great from behind the car. It's louder than stock inside, but not too bad.

Holy crap do those tips stick out too much.

Yeah, they stick out pretty badly. Maybe the installation was a bit off. I unno.

It's annoying enough that I'm considering the diffusor. Check out the photos at http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=224281.

I'm typing this while on the phone with my fiance. LOL, she knows I'm not paying attention and asks, "ARE YOU ON 1ADDICT!!!"

I think your install was correct, that's exactly what my friends car looked like. He also thinks the PP diffuser will fix the problem.

I think I will cut them down one inch.

I'm happy with mine. That said, there are a couple things that are less than optimum:
  • There is a lot of resonance in the cabin between approx. 1800-2200 RPM, and that is the shift point for the Steptronic in normal "D" mode - so you spend a lot of time in that range. If I switch to DS mode the shift point goes up, but the gas mileage goes down Maybe it will settle in or maybe I'll get used to it.
  • It's a bear to fit - It had to come off to have the LSD installed, and when it went back on one of the clamps pushed up on the heat shield and resulted in a knock from one of the driveshaft balance weights knocking against the heat shield. Exhaust and heat shield had to come back down, the heat shield had to be re-shaped, 2 of the clamps had to be clearanced on the ears, and all put back. To be fair, the pipes are bigger than the stock ones, so they did a pretty good job fitting bigger pipes in there, but the clamps are at an odd angle (and spot-welded to the outside pipe) to clear the cross-member brace - if they moved the pipe joint forward about 1 1/2" they could be at a better angle and it wouldn't be a problem.
I have no idea how it sounds from the outside ('cause I won't let anyone drive it yet), but except for the 1800-2200 resonance I like the sound inside. No question its louder, but that's the price you pay.

I had it installed before delivery, so I can't compare it to stock.

Next up is Dinan Stage 2, so I'm expecting the two of them to work well together.

My 2 cents.

Have Fun,
Rick

I've had my BMW perf exhaust for a while and I wish it were a little louder. I guess I'm just used to my borla drone from my previous car so this exhaust is pretty quiet for my taste. However, 2K under load is As for the tips, mine are exactly flush with the bumper. There's no way to rub up on them with your legs. If someone has a pic of angled tips I'd like to seem them.

No regrets with mine. It has been, and remains, my hands-down favorite mod/upgrade/option... Until Spring, when I go Dinan S2.

Well, I think I''m going to pass on the BMW Performance exhaust. I just don't like how far the tips tick out and I'm not a fan of the carbon rear diffusor - the price or design. I may take a look at the Dinan axel-back...

Thanks all.

The only reason the pipes stick out too far is that when the stock pipe is cut to fit the the piece supplied with the exhaust, it is cut too long. If you hold the new piece to the exisiting pipe with the resonator you will get a good idea where to cut. Cutting the pipe too long is better then too short, you can always trim the amount of a too long pipe to get the proper fit. In short all these tales of too long a pipe is due to a poor installation, the BMW performance pipe has exactly the same dimensions as stock, except for larger outlet pipes,

I'm satisfied with the performance exhaust. Yes, there is a bit of drone in the 1.7k-2.1k rpm range but it is not bad. If you are concerned about the slight drone, then why not leave the stock resonator in place and only change the muffler?---Resonator---get it? As for fit and appearance, I did a DIY on the tips. Check it out--it looks exactly like stock. If you don't like to work on things you will have to accept what the manufacturers offer.

Guys, if it sticks out too far for your taste... have your tech cut the exhaust a little bit shorter so that it won't stick out as far.. that's all. It's made to be on conjunction with the P Diffuser..which is why it stick out further... if you don't plan on getting the CF Diffuser, have them cut a inch or so back
