Mud-flaps on 135i

My current tire setup is 225/255, so the tires stick out a little bit. A lot of times after detailing my car and taking it out on a drive, I come back home with dirt/dust on the side of the car. I got sick and tired of this, so I figured why not give mud-flaps a try.

I went to my local BMW dealer and asked how much it would cost for parts and labor. My SA quoted me about $400! So I went to my buddy who works there and he got me the front & rear set for $42 total!

I saw the DIY for mud-flaps and it required using a drill, which I was not comfortable using with my car, so my buddy talked to one of the service guys and I paid him $50 to do it. All in all, I paid about a $100 for the mud-flaps versus the $400 the SA quoted me.

I really like the final result. In my opinion, the flaps really add to the look of the car, given that my car is black, they really blend in. Best of all, no more dirt on the sides of the car!

Looks good with black paint. Would love to have them for my car since i live on the muddiest dirt road ever populated and it's impossible to keep my car clean even if i idle down the road in 1st gear slipping the clutch. but alas mine is white and i dont think it would look good.

Looks great. Huge plus to keep grime off the sides esp on a black car. How well do they work? I'm currently pricing them out and have a black car as well, really glad they look as good as they do.

they look great on your car. i had rear ones put on and painted alpine white.

the rears fit on without modification, only the fronts require fitting.

I have them front and rear of my alpine white vert. I think they look great. I also changed to matte black front grills and eliminated the chrome lettering from the back. I have the sport package so I don't have chrome trim around the top. I like the combination of white and black. I keep thinking about black rims but I think that might be too much for me. I still plan to darken the windows with a reflective tint (part looks, part reducing summer temperatures).

Most of the fasteners on both ends of the car could be re-used and no holes drilled. It was only a fastener or two per flap where a new hole was necessary. It takes longer to get the wheels out of the way than to install the flaps.

I bought mine from Amazon from a US dealer and installed them myself in no time at all. Even with M Sport wheels, I just turned them to install. Use the replacement plastics plugs that come with the kit, but re-use the plastic Torx screws on the underside of the side moulding. Sweet!

I think it looks better on white than black. After all, why do so many of us want/install black line tail lights (LCI or otherwise), and also install projector/angel eyes headlights with black backing, not to mention black kidney grills.

I'm not a fan of mud flaps, however on the black car they are harder to notice!

I'm amazed they need that much work. Aren't these things usually attached with some 3M double sided tape to ensure that the plastic does not wear away the paint?

+1for amazon. Just ordered some last week.. sick and tired of all the salt residue all over my car, even when it's not wet out! It's literally a salty dust storm out there some days. Did you get yours from BMW of Towson? That's where I bought mine from. How long did the shipping take (if that's where you ordered from)?

... Silver City BMW ... but I don't want to get them into trouble as BMW doesn't approve such sales. Why? So they can gouge us in other countries. Oh, but I have heard some stories that make me madder than a meataxe murderer. LOL

After a month of use and going through a lot of rain and back dirt roads, I can truly say the mud flaps are the best investment in terms of protecting your car's side body panels.

The car stays cleaner for a longer period of time after a wash as the dirt from the tires does not splash on to the sides of the car anymore and there is also protection from small rock chips being flung to the side of the car from the tires. I actually heard a tiny rock hit my left front mudflap cruising at 30 MPH. I wonder what kind of damage that would have done, if there was no mud flap to stop it.

I bought the flaps from United BMW of Roswell. I live close by and I got a special discount as I know someone who works there.

All in all, I am very satisfied with the investment and if you like the look of it, by all means I say go for it!

The member in my link recently said he was going to sell his. You can check with him to see if they're still available.
