That's shameful, I'd be really pissed...

This goes on quite a bit, ie: service guys taking your car, especially hi performance types for so called 'check and test' drives, when in actual fact it's a joy ride and fang/thrash of someones pride and joy - not good

I'd like to think the various BMW dealers around the country would frown upon this sort of behaviour.

If they're changing the fluids, why do they need to take the car for a drive anyway?

that is absolutely terrible.... i surely hope it doesnt happen at bmw's, but it would probably be ignorant to think so.

reminds me of when some valet guy totaled a porsche at crown casino...

I actually note my odo reading before and after a service to check and see if it's been driven.

It's not paranoia when you know they're out to get you...

You will often see Porsche mechanics trashing brand new or serviced Porsches down Victoria Parade and Hoddle st. Guess what? It's part of the test!

That is terrible. Poor bloke.

I used to get my350z serviced at an eastern suburbs dealer and TWICE picked the car up to find dents/scratches on the rear bumper.

The first time I couldn't be certain it was them so I left it. However every time after that I would drop it off and do a check of the car. So the second time I blew up at the service manager. They only paid half the repair bill.

I never went back there again and never will.

Reminds me of what happenned at Camberwell VW, that made the papers a few months ago.

That place reeked of incompetence, that's why I refused to buy a car there, despite the cheaper price.

I had a similar thing happen about 20 years ago. Sold my Mazda 323 and took it to a local mechanic for the RWC before handing it to the new owner. Got a call at work that the car had been in a "minor" accident. Went to view the car and it was a write off with one side of the car destroyed.

After some hassling and threats I received the agreed value of the car, but the new owner of course had to find a new car.

It was actually a while ago, now I think about it. It was in the news and on a current affair from memory, some lady had her VW in for a service, the mechanic took it out some completely unreasonable distance away from the dealership and totaled it.

A guy I work with had his 335i convertible driven into a pole recently by a dealership mechanic. Ouch.

That's it. I'm going to sit at the dealership and watch while they service my car now!

I can't believe that no one has mentioned the BMW techs that totalled Dean Wills' Mclaren F1 in Sydney before he even took delivery of the car...

I've seen a full-on bogan mechanic driving a M5 before, so yeh, it happens with BMW as well, not sure how many they write-off though.

Talking about bogans, I was tailing this commodore (VP I think) with a number plate "Bogan" (rather let pple think you are a bogan rather that putting it there for all to see - sheesh). Anyway, across the top of his rear window was

"BeltUpForSafetysSakeMotherF*cker"

Try explaining that one to your 8 year old in the back seat!

I thought there were laws against offensive stickers and signage???

If you're referring to the Involuntary Euthanasia for Bogans/Westie's (it's not discriminatory see) then I have to tell you it was knocked back in the Senate.

I prefer the term;

"Retrospective Abortion"

Working in an emergency dept makes me really want to be able to bulk bill for the above procedure

Savage BMW in Cali wrecked a fairly brand new E46 M3 a few years ago. Similar circumstances. Tech took it out for a joy ride and wound up going sideways over a traffic island.
