Recently installed factory BMW CID into dash and installed TV
Hi there,
Not sure if anyone is interested but I recently purchased a complete BMW Central Information Display head unit from BMW Melbourne, Australia for $3800.00, pulled out the OEM LCD screen and replaced it with an AV screen. I then hooked that up to a DVD player within the glove box. I used a cable from the DVD players headphone out and ran it to AUX for sound. It looks factory and sounds great too. Along the way i took many photo's and video for anyone who would like info. |

This is a bit off topic, but did you notice if there was enough space under the dash for a center speaker? Would probably need 45mm depth by 90mm in diameter. I would love to fabricate a center channel housing and drop it into a cut out in the dash, but have no idea how much space is under the center of the dash.

There is easily enough space for your speaker with the measurements you listed. When you pull out the storage bin on top of the dash, the chasis underneath slants on an angle (Very deep at the front (11cm's) leading more shallow back toward the windscreen (7cm's), there's a lot of room down there. It's deceiving because when you look at the top centre air vents, they look to be right at the top of the dash but what you don't see after pulling the vents out is that the vents do an immediate dive bomb straight down to allow space in the top of the dash. If you don't already have a storage bin in your 1 series and want to cut in, the space below the dash is still the same, I checked it on my other 1 Series for you. Kind regards. |
