exhaust warranty question

So I am starting to hear the waste gate rattle and imagine I will soon bring the car into bmw to have them replace the turbos under warranty. I have an active autowerks axle back exhaust. My question is will they give me trouble due to the exhaust? or is it not an issue? I can always throw the stock back on there, but wouldn't want to waste my time if its not necessary.

I highly doubt you will have warranty issues for just an axle back. Is that your only mod? Use the and you'll find a plethora of information on warranty claims and issues people have had with exhaust modifications.

Only mod now is the axle back. From what I have read it can vary from dealer to dealer. I'd rather not take my chances, so I am going to swap the stock exhaust back on. 30 mins of my time isnt worth the potential $2k in repair, it's unfortunate there is such a lack of consistency with all the bmw dealerships.

You could always just talk to the service adviser and see what he thinks. You're correct that it varies from dealer to dealer. Some may try to claim that reduced backpressure contributed to the failure while others will be fine with it.

Changing out the muffler is easy enough, but when you go there just ask him and see what he says. Make a contact if you can- having someone there who's on your side can be immensely helpful.

No one will be able to give you an exact answer unless they have been in your situation and used your specific dealer. As you said each dealer is different. Either ask the SA first before bringing it in or go swap exhausts and not worry.
