E-tags work fine in the top storage bin
Prior to today I used to stash my E-tag in the glovebox and get it out each time I needed to use it and toss it on the dash. This is because I don't like the look of it sticking to the top of the windscreen.
Today I drove the Logan Motorway and Gateway toll roads and decided to try leaving it in the storage bin on the top of the dash. The one you get fitted as standard in Aussie 135's if you don't have iDrive and Nav. So I'm pleased to report that the E-tag works perfectly fine inside the bin with the lid closed. 6 out of 6 beeps today. Perhaps you already knew this. If not, it's a handy solution to keep the ugly damned thing out of sight. Cheers. |

nice one, I'll have to try that! I usually keep mine in the arm rest and get it out as & when.

didnt know that! thanks for the tip.
what i've been doing (since i've been lazy and haven't gotten around to getting a new sticky thing) is leaving the e tag in the cup holder and moving it to the dash when needed (cup holder doesnt really serve a purpose anyway). One day i forgot to put it on the dash and it beeped, presumably through the sunroof (glass closed and shade open). tried it again with the shade closed and it didnt work. |

Thanks for the tip! I tried this on Saturday and worked like a charm.
Was a bit worried at first because I had a huge line of cars right behind me in case i needed reverse.

mine works in the cup holder fine but not in the top compartment on the m5 motorway. i will try mounting it on the inside of the top tray lid if its possible that may work, as i agree its the best spot for the ugly thing

Mounted up behind the passenger side of the interior rear view mirror I can hardly see my tag from the driver's seat. From the outside it also pretty well hidden - by the tint on the top of the screen. Good tip though!

i don't think it would work on the syd harbour bridge if kept inside the dashboard storage bin... unfortunately it seems for some reason the e-tag need to be on a 45 degree angle for it to work there. All other tolls i've been through work fine otherwise... the lane cove tunnel sensor seems to be too powerful -- at times i've unknowingly had my spare e-tag in the car, and it inadvertently goes off making me pay twice (e.g. if stored away in the centre console)

It works on M5 and Syd ED toll. Will test it on Harbour Bridge this weekend.

I'm sure they will have plenty of complaints from people who have them installed in the recommended position on the windscreen. In my experience I've got the occasional fail to read when positioned there too. |
