Try this website, compares 7 quotes side by side, for free. Has confirmed my own research a number of times. It takes 48hrs for a reply, but covers almost all the names above. FWIW I was told by Shannons they cap vehicles at $55k, and wouldn't quote above that

Thanks Dazza. This looks very helpful! Good to see another E30 nut & bike rider out there.

Since I'm guessing I'm only about 3 weeks away from delivery I've started shopping for insurance. My investigations so far:
Shannons - $1,766 (plus $40 off my existing policy I have with them)
RACV - $1,788 ($500 excess) or $1,358 ($1500 excess)
SunCorp - $2,006
AAMI - $1,631 ($650 excess) or $1,309 ($1,550 excess)

28yo, rating 1 in Balwyn. Currently pay $1,150 for my 120i with RACV and $500 excess.

I'll try getting a BMW Insurance quote next week. But looks like a might stick with RACV at a higher excess or go Shannons with a low excess.

BMW go through Allianz..

I actually found them to be the most expensive this time round, where I have had the past three Beemers through them..
Went with GIO this time.. $1495 with $500 excess..

Just got a quote from HBF in Perth, insured for $91K is around $1800 per annum. Mid 40's, top NCB and advantage driver policy (nominated, low risk drivers), parked off the road in a 'good' area. Oh yeah, $300 excess.

Compares to $747pa for $26,280 now. I will shop around some over the next few days and see what the results are like.

I've had exceptional service from HBF on the 2 occasions when I've needed to claim, no trouble and quick to approve with an exceptional repair job, so will renew with them unless there's a BIG difference. Loyalty works two ways with me.

The usual factors will result in this mate- age, location, driving history, the vehicle itself (price and it is a twin-turbo 3L IL6 after all).

Because you're <30 that's probably not helping either.

€1,628

Still, could have been worse. One bank I called said the best they could do was €26,000 per annum (that was the premium, not the amount insured!)

Indeed. The car only cost €44k so it was more than half it's value.

I think they had issues with my lack of Belgian insurance history... I told them 'no thank you'.

[rant]

What I want to know is this: Who remembers their traffic infringements (including whether it was for <15kmh or between 15kmh and 30kmh or over) for the last 5 years? I mean, the points aren't even deducted for that long, let along recorded on your license renewal!

Also, when will Eastern States insurers stop thinking that Australia ends at the NSW and VIC borders? I don't know what level (1-5) my NCB is, I know it as a 60% NCB! Even Google didn't help with that, I found one reference but I think I got it wrong (I said 5). Sheez....

Basically it was their way of saying "we don't want to insure you".

I struggled to get insurance here because I couldn't prove 5 years accident free. Most companies wouldn't accept evidence from overseas and I've barely had any insurance in my name in the last five years anyway as they have all been company cars or rentals.

But in the end my bank (ING) came through with the €1,628 quote which I accepted. They never asked for proof of no accidents

B*stards...

You know it was so cold here in Perth this morning, when I was walking down St Georges Terrace I actually saw an insurance salesman with his hands in his own pockets!

You're digging your own grave with this mate.

Normally you have to disclose all the main drivers on a policy.

The golden rule with insurance is provided you tell them everything thing they ask you for, then you don't have a problem at claim time.

Ommitting things could save you money now, but could cost you a lot more down the track!
