Well, I'm upgrading from a Mazda3 SP23 so the car is a revelation.
Effortlessly intuitive, like slipping into a glove that just fits.
All electronic gadgetry works without fuss. Bluetooth found my HTC Touch HD in 10 secs, USB port recognised my 4Gb stick, my MP3 DVD cd does not skip, radio works in places i didn't know had radio, standard stereo is better than my home cinema setup, 18-way adjustable seats are marvelous.
Car feels like its glued to the road and engine pulls much harder and much more effortlessly.
Oh and I love the understated elegance of its body and interior.
I've done over 2500Kms in last 2 weeks in the car.

Two negative points:

1. suspension is a bit "jumpy" i think its a common complaint and i'm glad i don't have 18" wheels. Its firm and underdamped imo, probably because of the RF tyres.

2. engine has a great "sweet spot" from 3500 - 5000 revs but after that feels a bit "castrated" Not sure if its the way it was detuned but the linear power progression that i expected just isn't there. Shame for such a rev-loving engine.

oh and for some reason my foot always catches on the footrest when i press the clutch.

If i had the money to buy the car brand new, I'd probably buy a 135i... you can find a bargain at the dealers now for about $75K with no options and a wee milage. But for $50K I could not go past the 125i

I guess the 125i is double the price of the sp23.

1. It's normal and I think it's too dampened - needs Non-RF but stiffer suspension
2. I didn't find the problem when I was test driving the vert but that was a while ago. Unlike the 135i, it should be quite linear till redline. There are treads talking about upping the 125i to the output to 130i - ie 160kw to 190kw, but changing something to the 130i part - do a search, or browse through the 128k drivetrain.

Just signed up for 125i convertible with prof NAV, auto comfort access, voice recog, in Cashmir with oyster leather - was last one in Melb and off showroom floor.Paid $79,500. Is that too much - I wanted it before 30 June. My first BMW and convertible - have some concerns about soft top but looks really cool. Is tinting windows advisable ?

Mate dont know if you paid too much, but as long as you are happy with the price is all that matters..

As far as window tinting on verts, well its personal taste.. Myself, I didnt tint the vert, only for the reason when the windows are up and roof down, it looks a bit iffy IMO.. But then again, each to their own..

another 125i owner debadged the 125i badge on his car - said it attracted envious vandals. Is this advisable ?

Envious of what exactly? Saw Warren's 125i on the weekend and he had it debadged. Looked great, thinking of doing the same with mine.

I went for 18s but no sports suspension on my 125 ... I find the suspension/handling very good. Previous car was an RX8.

I love the debadged look. Much more balance - and adds a little bit of mystery to the car.
