Anyone going to Oran Park Sat 13th of June?

I'll be there for the Circuit Club track day. Its going to be on the full GP circuit and I think they will even have the timing going.

I just got some Hawk HP Plus in the car so it will be interesting to see how they go.

Will be there the whole day so come down and say hi if you don't have something better to do.

White 135i with green Autopia stickers.

Hi Jeff

Keep an eye on your Caliper pistons with aftermarket pads when you are tracking it. They fall apart, just letting you know in case you aren't aware.

How so Andrew? Melt due to overheating? Do the stock pads have a more insulated backing plate or are they more rigid? I hadn't heard this but wondered why Way would need to upgrade his calipers rather than just upgrade the pads. Taa.

I put some temperature stickers on the calipers. Will take photos to show results.

Waiting on timing results to go up on Natsoft - will report back with times / pics when available - was a good day though!

There was a thread on this a while ago in the brakes section. The ceramic tops of the pistons crack from too much temperature from aftermarket pads, the stock Brambos look good but are not track calipers. The Cool Willys from Turner seem to have the most problems and the Endless dont last very long before the material wears away.

Way had no option, he wanted track brakes and stock just do not cut the mustard, he wanted a track car and the Race brakes make a huge difference.

Good one Jeff, looked like a great day, good results, any videos?

Nice one Jeff. 4th quickest is a great effort. My mate Floody was there too with his white Polo GTI. He did a PB. Must give it a try with Circuit Club.

Bugger! Thanks Andrew. Not what I was hoping to hear though. I wonder if just the pistons could be upgraded..?

Awesome result Jeff!!!

Jeff,

I am wondering how the Hawk HP Plus pads went. Were you happy with them ? Did you get them locally ?

Thanks
Nick

Got them locally from Vsport. I had to try and bed them in on the track which was really difficult with other cars flying past when you are slowing down to 10km / h.

I did notice that they were smoking one time when I had to stop without getting a cool down lap. Overall they seem ok - my last session was over 20 minutes of pounding around the track and they didn't seem to fall off with the heat build up. We'll have to wait and see how they go once it gets hotter though. I've got some temperature stickers on the calipers so I'll post that up once I take some photos.

So far they seem pretty quiet on the street - could get noisier over time though, will let you know.

Here are some other photos from the day:

Waiting patiently in the pits

I think this is down the bottom of the track (Northern end) before you turn right to go up and over the bridge

I think this is either the flip-flop of the major left a bit before

Sequence through the last corner coming onto the straight. This one requires maximum confidence in the car as you really need to have it loaded up to get a good run onto the straight. The wall is right there ready to catch you out if something goes wrong...

Yep that wall is mighty scary. I've not driven Oran Park before but went to the V8 Supercars in December for the first time. I was there to see the MINI Challenge races, but also enjoyed seeing the Muscle Car Classics go around. One old Valiant in particular drifted very close to the wall every lap!
