Cool project but I wouldn't change a single thing about mine, especially the engine. Mad props for what you did though!

This is exactly what I want to do with me e82! I'm very tempted to keep it after the lease ends and swap in the s65. I'm pretty sure it would cost a ton to do so though. good to know someone's done it before though! Mad respect

That's seriously amazing! I am curious how it drives though. So much for the perfect weight balance!

First of all:

Second; a V8 in 1M body was much of an expectation back at the time when people didn't know what to expect from 1M. Naturally, most wanted a shrinked, lighter, more agile M3 and nothing else. People who read all this thread will notice that while M3 owners/fans are applauding this project as the "real 1M" or the 1M as it should be from the factory, the owners of the actual 1M tell that they wouldn't change a bit about their cars. I also own one and definitely wouldn't switch it with the NA V8. For me, one of the reasons that I bought the car is because it is with the M3 chassis but with the N54T. It is simple, it is all about the character you want and I believe that the 1M has tons of it especially because of its N54T heart. It fits amazingly well with the 1 series coupe's compact and lighter body and matched with a basically M3 chassis.

With this car (V8 1 series) you are going to have a better top speed, high rpm, better sound at the top end (not at lower rpm, idle or at cold start up though), and a completely different driving character than the low to mid range fat torque N54T. A normal 1M would still be easier and more fun to drive at lower (read legal) road speeds, in the city, on curvy roads, with better mileage and don't forget that it will be much quicker in passing (same gear flexibility). So, it all comes down to what you want from this car to be and where to utilize it.

I am with the people that desire a comparison of this car with the 1M. I bet there won't be real winners there but an unbiased tester would notice how entirely different the two would be, with particular strengths and weaknesses in relation to each other.

There is one thing for sure though, that this car is supposed to be "better" to drive and be more performant than the stock E9X M3, since the only fundamental difference between them is lower weight and more compact dimensions in favor of the Egyptian 1M

Does anyone know the weight difference between the N54 & S65? I know the S65 is lighter than the S54 due to it being all aluminum but I'd be curious to know how the 2 compare.

I'm curious, too, and if the S65 is heavier I wonder how much this conversion affects the handling balance.
