BMW CCA LA Chapter Autox 2013-03-03

Got 2nd place in turbo stock class - would have gotten first if I didn't hit the last cone! 2 sec penalty fail by me. You can here me say "FUCK!" at the finish line ha

Youre right! It was placed after the first cone and in the wrong spot!!!! Made me not go wider and not clear the second set.

Eh, it happens. It is hard to try and identify those things when you're at those speeds.

I don't know where you're looking (camera angle doesn't show): but if you are coming around the corner you should be looking ahead at that slalom and seeing that cone.

Looks like you got a decent line. Did you cone all your other runs?

On that sweeper im looking for the inside cone coming out of the gate to hit it right on the inside which leads me into the correct angle for the first slalom. Even so im looking for targets to hit. Not for knocked down cones. What baffled me were corner workers following a car with their eyes all the way to the finish line ha!

Yeah, it looks doable especially if you have some grippy tires. The F30 that took first place had Hankook Ventuses--didn't see which model, but they're probably the RS3's.

I actually am part of F30post (my car) and he joined last minute to come up. He had R-S3 on his car but without hitting the cone it would have beat his time. But i do actually think that knocked down cone caused me to take a straighter line rather than a little wider.

I took my F30 328i out the last time and it handles real well and I actually placed second that time as well amongst n54/55 engines.

Its just more fun in the 1er! Thinking of getting a dedicated set of track tires - in the long run they are actually cheaper than going through set after set.

Are you gonna go in May? There is an open track event at Buttonwillow late April that a few buddies and myself are thinking of going (on a Friday).

There is also BMW CCA central cali chapter event at buttonwillow in June. its up on motorsportsreg or whatever that site is. You should make it out.

I'm definitely planning to go to the May autox. I'll check out those events you mentioned. Another good group is the OC PCA. They have autocrosses nearly every month at El Toro if you're looking for more seat time.

Yeah, that's the one. It's worth going to see things like GT3's, loud ass air cooled 911's, and other modded Porsches.
