I just stopped by the dealer to decide on color and finally test drove the 135i!
I've had a very tough time deciding on colors (and options) so I decided to stop by the dealership again to take a look around, even though I assumed they would be closed for the night.
Their demo 135i is black sapphire metallic with red leather. That color combo looks GREAT but the black would be tough to keep clean. I looked around the lot at crimson red, SGM, and silver metallic (on 335i's). They all look great.. A sales guy came out and asked if I wanted a test drive. Hmm.. Hell yea. The sport seats are great! I was afraid they would be too tight for me at 235lb but they really are comfortable and hold you in place very well around turns. The M steering wheel is great! It has a very large diameter grip and is very impressive. The car feels much faster than expected and there is absolutely zero turbo lag. I drove a 335i around one night and this thing *feels* faster. Now I understand why some people want to wait on the dinan software upgrade. I'll get the dinan sauce up front but I no longer feel it's an absolute requirement with this car. The test drive was done at night so I didn't push the car too hard. It handles great, has very tight steering feel (like most bmw's), and really does not ride rough at all. I'm not sure why but I realized something during the test drive; Whether the car is black, red or silver really doesn't matter. The thing that really matters about this car is how it DRIVES. Color is not that big of a deal. I just need to get the car ordered asap so I can drive it every day. One of the other sales guys mentioned the performance center delivery. After talking with him about it, I'm definitely doing it. Regarding the color.. screw it.. I'll order black metallic with red leather and never look back. I'll probably order all options except sirius radio and auto tranny. I was going to wait until I sell my current car before placing an order but 6-8 week build time should allow enough time to get the S4 sold. What's the deposit amount required to order a car? I'm delivering that amount to the dealer this week. BTW, I believe the carbon fiber rear spoiler and diffuser would look great on black sapphire. |

My dealer didn't even ask for a deposit and I am a first time buyer. I spoke with the sales guy, they ordered the car to my specs and never even mentioned a deposit.

Thanks for the info. BTW, the guy that gave me the test drive isn't the same guy who I planned on buying the car from. I've already spoke with the same guy who I bought the 325i from last year. He had already gone home for the night. The guy tonight was very helpful and enthusiastic about the test drive and dinan upgrade, even though I mentioned my plans to buy it from the first guy. How much do they really make from the sale of a car? Would it be acceptable to slip this guy a $100 bill for being very helpful?
