dct getting flakey -- any ideas

Hi,

my DCT on a 2011 135i works great, except that recently it started beeping more and more about pushing the button in when trying to get into reverse. today I had a hard time getting it in Park by pushing the P button and it took me 3-4 tries to get into reverse. It seems to be possessed.

Any ideas? Is a dealer visit the only way to fix?

thanks,

-Eric

Bring it in to the dealer. See if they can find any codes. If not, run the DCT update for your car detailed in the DCT Stalling @ Idle thread in the 135 engine/drivetrain subforum.

Sounds more like a mechanical thing... You might been a new shift lever or switches IF they are sold separately. ? I would take it to a dealer and show them whats happening. Or better yet make a video and show them.

thanks guys. Video is a good idea. I'm afraid I'll get to the dealer and the thing will work perfectly for 20 minutes

Interesting- I wonder if it's the wiring harness rather than the shifter itself.

i'll go to the dealer on thursday and will let people know. I would have loved a 6MT, but the getting an automatic was the compromise I had to reach to get a small two door car (i have 5 kids). DCT in manual is not half bad, especially on twisty roads.

I believe it was the harness but they swapped the whole unit, they found it faulty while searching for an electrical issue. Turns out the battery had an internal short, by far the most bizarre issue I have had on a BMW

Same for me. My shifter was getting stuck trying to get into Park. Dealer replaced with a new lever/selector.
