Quick question about towing..

This is hypothetical, but i might be moving for school.. and i was sort of wondering what to do with my car. So maybe i can drive it cross country (miles..yuck!) and add a small uhaul trailer. What is the max weight and do i even have a towing hitch?...Anyway, just curious.

I drove my old car (nissan sentra) across the country from LA to Boston about 4 years ago. Its a very kewel trip....well, if you enjoy driving. I did it in 4 days...was a nice pace.

Well...ok...back on topic. I do not think you have a hitch....but I could be wrong. Not sure about max weight.

Maybe you should ship your car out....

Edit...this thread makes it sound like an option that may not be avail in US...I dunno.

Check it out.....

you'd probably be better off to buy new stuff when you get there

your car can't pull a heavy or large trailer(so you couldn't bring heavy things, plus those rental trailers are poorly maintained (in general)

save some cash up and hit up the IKEA when you get there!

No nothing more enjoyabe to drive the E90 across the States. Take two weeks or more and see how big and beautiful the country is. Take as much as you can, and ship the rest by truck. I am not sure if you are going to be a freshman or not. Most East coast universities not allow freshman to have car on campus.

Every year (almost), we drive from DE to Colorado or Utah and back. We always enjoy the trip except driving through KS.

Sorry Bella, I really have no idea. I just that you are a pretty smart lucky kid living in palace

I hope you are transfering to a school somewhere in New England. It will be so much different from CA especially in around X'mas time. In CA, the plastic Santa and candles with X'mas lights around the palm trees just don't cut it.

I agree!
Did it once too, LA-NY, 4days, its was great experience definitely.
I know what you mean about KS, it was one long straight road over a flat dull land, seem endless, as you see it into the horizon. Over-all rewarding experience!

I just moved from Colorado to New Jersey about 7 month ago. After going through numerous calculations what will be the most price effective way of relocation, I finally decided to sell almost everything in Colorado except my clothes, computers and my home theater system, and buy new furniture from IKEA in Jersey. If you want to tow a trailer from your car, the hitch and installation only would cost around $4-500. Also you will have to pay for the trailer which you are going to rent from U-haul or something. Also, you have to pay gas, hotel fee, meals, etc... Finally when you arrive at boston, you are stuck with you old furnitures!!

If you sell all of the things, you will just need to ship some of the boxes and your clothes. You can pack rest of your stuff in the car and drive to east coast, and you saving will be way more than you imagine!! I saved about $2000 for that, and it was more than enough for the new furnitures from IKEA.

Hey...I lived in Boston for 4 years...and so glad to be back in Cali.

I will take plastic santa and palm trees any day ...over storm/snow/<40 degree temps from now until Spring Break.

Well it depends on where i move to. If i move into a shared apartment thats already furnished, then i only need to take clothes, computer..small things. I can buy sheets, rugs..etc out there. So will driving my car out to the east coast be cheaper than shipping it? If i move into NYC, then i dont need my car. But the schools im looking at are around Nyc and jersey. So i would hate to make car payments and not drive my car..

Well Bella...if you are not going to be using it. Just think about it like this....you rented the car.

Then you got rid of it when you left for school. It may be more costly to continue to make payments on a car that you are not going to be using......I dunno.

Note: Get into the school first..then decide what to do about the car.
