Are My Turbo's Shot? HELP!!! Freaking out (video)

Hey so I started up my 135i and as soon as my Rpm's get to 3000 I hear an extremely loud and annoying high pitched whine. It's almost like a windup sound, not a rattle.

I did some investigative work and I discovered that when I disconnect the vacuum tanks the whine goes away!

If my turbo's are shot, is it still under warranty? 09' with 72k

Update: Even after I disconnect the lines that go to the vacuum tank it only delays the whine for about 2000 rpm

Connected: Whine starts at 3000 rpm
Disconnected: starts at 5000 rpm and less loud

Can you post a video so we can hear the sound its making. Its possible that it could be a leak or something really simple.

The car was hit literally where the passenger side headlight is. The tip of the rail was slightly bent but was replaced. The rad support had a small crack(decided to replace it anyway).

So it wouldn't make sense to me that the belt is bad. Would I get a message displaying that the engine is running on reduced power if the belt is bad or the bearings?

Definitely not the turbos. Pulley or belt because the sound moves with rpms

Have you checked the tensioner, pulleys and belt for the accessories system, i.e. aircon, etc.

I ruled out a bad belt, tensioner, etc because I wouldn't be getting a "engine malfunction, loss of power" code from that. I had a friend who's a mechanic look at the car and he said the turbo's aren't engaging(driving with no turbo's basically). So unfortunately I will be planning a trip to the stealership within the next few days.

Hopefully the repair gets covered. I know the wastegate problem gets covered but this isn't a rattle like you hear from the wastegates...something else must have broke

why would you not be getting an engine malfunction of a belt?

it definetly sounds like a belt or rubbing from a fan in the front of the engine bay

Agreed, just because a bearing is shot in a pulley or the belt is screeching doesn't mean it would throw a code.
